Trinity's Wolf; TLU's Snider Earns SCAC Baseball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomore outfielder Jeremy Wolf of Trinity University and senior pitcher Dwayne Snider of Texas Lutheran University has been named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week for their outstanding performance this past weekend.



 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  March 31st – April 6th

JEREMY WOLF OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore outfielder from Scottsdale, Ariz., has been selected the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 31st through Sunday, April 6th.

Wolf led Trinity to a 4-0 record that included a three-game SCAC series sweep on the road against Schreiner University.

Wolf sported a .467 overall batting average last week, going 7-15 at the plate.  He nabbed two doubles, a triple, and a home run among his seven hits, as well as adding five runs and five RBI for the Tigers.  In the three-game series with Schreiner, Wolf went 5-10 with three runs and four RBI.

To start the week, Wolf had two doubles and scored two runs against Hardin-Simmons.  After going hitless in the opening game against Schreiner, Wolf finished strong with five hits in the next two games, scoring in each game, and driving in four runs. 

For the season, Wolf is now hitting .339 (38-112) with 15 runs, and he is second on the team with 26 RBI.  He has bumped his slugging percentage to .536 on the year, and holds a .417 on-base percentage. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman outfielder James Arguello of Austin College batted .500 with a double and two RBI and scored two runs, and was also 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts in a three game series against Southwestern over the weekend. Sophomore outfielder Will Cates of Southwestern helped pace the Pirate offense to a 3-0 week as the sophomore finished batting at a .500 clip. Cates picked up three extra base hits with a home run and two doubles to finish the weekend with 11 total bases. Senior infielder/designated hitter Derek Kanas of Texas Lutheran drove in a run in each of the three wins over Centenary. Kanas had a single RBI in each of the Bulldog wins. Centenary, Dallas, and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  March 31st – April 6th

DWAYNE SNIDER OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior right handed pitcher from New Caney, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 31st through Sunday, April 6th.

Snider stretched his scoreless innings streak 22 1/3 innings with a nine-inning shutout Friday against Centenary (La.). 
In the first-ever night game at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field, Snider took a no-hitter into the fifth and finished the game by working out of a two-out, bases-loaded jam in the ninth. 

Snider struck out seven, walked two and only allowing six hits in improving to 5-1 and lowering his ERA to an SCAC-best 1.07. The win propelled TLU to taking control of second place in the SCAC following a sweep o fthe Gents.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman pitcher Josh Lewis of Ausitn College had a strong performance in a narrow loss against Southwestern, tossing his third complete game of the season and surrendering just two earned runs on only three hits while striking out four in a 4-2 loss to the Pirates. Senior pitcher Jason Stading of Southwestern pitched six innings to earn his first win of the season as the Pirates earned a 4-2 victory. Stading struck out one as he scattered five hits and posted a 1.50 ERA. Junior pitcher Zack Speer of Trinity pitched six shutout innings to open the series against Schreiner, leading Trinity to a 12-0 victory. Speer struck out seven batters without allowing a walk, and gave up just five hits. Centenary, Dallas, and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.
