LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Texas Lutheran took complete control of second place in the SCAC Standings as they swept No. 3 Centenary in their first home series under the lights. Meanwhile, Southwestern catapulted themselves into fourth place as they swept Austin College and have now won five of their last six conference matchups. Trinity responded after a rare bad weekend by sweeping Schreiner to maintain the top of the standings.

Austin College fell in all three of its games
against Southwestern over the weekend, falling 11-6 in game one on
Friday before being edged 4-2 and 4-1 on Saturday to bring the
team’s overall record to 4-24 this season. James Arguello
batted .500 to lead the ‘Roos offensively over the weekend,
hitting a double and driving in a pair of runs, and Josh Lewis had
a strong performance on the mound in the first game of
Saturday’s doubleheader. Lewis gave up only three hits and
two earned runs in a complete game performance, striking out four
batters in the game. Thomas Oberg batted .333 for the weekend, and
Marcos Molina drove in four runs and was 3-for-3 on stolen base
attempts over the course of the series.
Centenary dropped all three games at Texas Lutheran over the weekend. The Gents posted 21 hits during the series, but struggled to push runs across the dish being outscored 18-3. TLU tallied 25 hits in the series. Aaron Quintanilla led the Maroon and White with four hits while a quartet of Gents tallied three hits for the weekend. Christian Sebastien and Nic Parrott drove in the only runs for Centenary. A total of 10 hurlers took the hill for the Gents with Layton Tromba, Paul Arcement and Holden Novak receiving the decisions. Tromba and Arcement each tallied ERAs under 2.00 for the weekend. As a unit, the staff posted a 4.79 ERA and held the opposition to a .301 average at the plate. The Bulldogs totaled a sub-1.00 ERA paired with holding the Gents to a .263 hitting clip. Centenary returns to action on this weekend as the Gents host Austin College in a three-game, SCAC series. The three games is the first of six straight at Shehee Stadium.
Dallas went 0-3 on the week. On Saturday, in Orange, Calif., the Crusaders suffered a pair of 6-3 (F/9) losses to Chapman University. On Sunday, at Hart Park, the navy and white were bested 10-0 (F/7) by the Panthers. Dallas celebrates ‘senior day’ -- Mark Carlson, Alex Thornton -- this weekend in their final homestand of the season. They return to conference play as they host Schreiner -- Saturday (12 p.m. DH; 1x7, 1x9) and Sunday (TBD; 1x9).
Schreiner lost this weekend’s series against the visiting Trinity Tigers, now putting them behind 3 games for the final post-season spot. Mountaineers will look to fight for that last spot with a trip to Dallas to take on the Crusaders.

Southwestern got timely hitting and solid pitching en route to a three-game sweep at Austin College over the weekend. Will Cates and Clayton Sparks each hit .500 as Cates finished with a home run and two doubles. The Pirates claimed their second straight series and have now won four straight – the longest winning streak under head coach RJ Thomas and longest since claiming five straight March 19-26 during the 2011 season. Jacob Kendra and Jason Stading earned two wins each posting 1.50 ERA and each going six innings. Carl Mueller also earned a save in the finale pitching three innings of relief and only allowing one base runner on a base hit.
Texas Lutheran collected 3-0 and 13-3 wins Saturday over Centenary (La.) to complete a three-game conference series sweep of the Gents. The Bulldogs improved to 22-10 overall and to 9-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs also won 2-0 on Friday night and started the three-game series with 22 scoreless innings against the Gents. The Bulldogs now hold sole possession of second place in the SCAC baseball standings. TLU entered the series trailing Centenary by a game in the standings. In the early game Saturday, TLU junior right-hander Aaron Aleman pitched all seven innings and notched his sixth win of the season. Aleman (6-1) worked around nine hits and three walks. The Bulldogs broke the game open with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. All three runs were unearned. Derek Kanas and Von Wendel each drove in runs. In the late game, the Bulldogs and Gents were scoreless again until the sixth. TLU then erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth and seven more in the bottom of the seventh. The game was called in the seventh with the 10-run rule. On Friday night, Dwayne Snider hurled a six-hit shutout in the first-ever TLU baseball game at Katt-Isbel Field to be played under the lights.
After going winless last week, No. 11/8 Trinity bounced back with a 4-0 record this week – including a three-game SCAC weekend sweep against Schreiner. The Tigers started by snapping a four-game losing streak with a 13-6 win at Hardin-Simmons, then finished with two shutouts in three contests against Schreiner. Trinity won 12-0 in the opening game of a Saturday doubleheader, then rallied for a 9-4 win in game two. The Tigers then finished off the weekend with an 11-0 victory. Trinity returns home for a key three-game SCAC series against Texas Lutheran this weekend, opening with a Friday night game at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers and Bulldogs conclude the series with a Saturday doubleheader that is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. In non-conference action last season, Trinity took a home-and-home series against the Bulldogs, winning 8-6 and 3-2.
