SCAC Announces 2014 Men's Basketball Tournament Bracket

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The SCAC office today announced the bracket for the 2014 men's basketball tournament, which will be begin Friday, Feb. 28 in San Antonio, Texas. Tournament Bracket | Official Tournament Website | Hoops Weekly - Tournament Edition

The host school, Trinity University, posted a 11-3 conference mark (16-9 overall) to earn the top seed for this weekend's event. The Tigers are the two-time defending champions, having won the program's seventh conference tournament title with a 60-55 overtime victory over Colorado College last year at Austin College.

Men's quarterfinal action gets underway at 1 p.m. CT Friday afternoon as Trinity takes on the No. 8 seed Texas Lutheran University (3-11 SCAC / 9-16 overall). The Bulldogs are making their SCAC tournament debut.

The second quarterfinal pits the No. 4 seed Colorado College (9-5 SCAC / 16-7 overall) vs. No. 5 seed University of Dallas (5-9 SCAC / 11-13 overall). The Crusaders upset Colorado College, 67-66, on the final day of the regular season.

Friday's third quarterfinal contest will pit the league's hottest team, Centenary College (10-4 SCAC / 16-9 overall), against the No. 7 seed Southwestern University (4-10 SCAC / 7-17 overall). The second-seeded Gents have won nine of their last 10 games. Centenary earned the tiebreaker over Schreiner University for the second seed by virtue of its sweep of the Mountaineers during the regular season.

The final quarterfinal contest of the evening will match Schreiner University (10-4 SCAC / 14-11 overall) against the No. 6 seed Austin College (4-10 SCAC / 8-15 overall). The third-seeded Mountaineers are also making their first-ever SCAC tournament appearance. Austin College earned the sixth seed over Southwestern via league tiebreakers by virtue of its better record against the highest-seeded team (third-place Schreiner).
