Centenary finished the regular season with two wins including a victory over Austin College assisting the Gents in clinching the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SCAC Championship. Jonathan Blount averaged 44.5 points over two games this week including setting Centenary’s single-game scoring record with 53 points against Open Bible College. The senior followed the effort with 36 points in the Gents regular season finale assisting the squad in clinching the No. 2 seed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Shreveport, La., native shot 58.7 percent from the floor on the week and connected on 40 percent from behind the arc. Blount was also 80 percent from the charity stripe. He averaged 5.0 rebounds including grabbing a season-high eight boards in the win over Austin College. Kendall Demouchet added 19 points against OBC while Caden Cheramie supplied 18 points in the victory over the Roos. Centenary faces Southwestern at 5 p.m. in the opening game of the conference tournament. The Gents are 2-0 against the Pirates this season.

Colorado College saw its three-game winning streak snapped with a 67-66 loss to Dallas in Saturday’s regular-season finale. The Tigers overcame a five-point deficit during the final 1:30 to take a 66-65 lead on a three-pointer by senior guard Jake Tramutolo with 39 seconds left, but the Crusaders scored with a little more than eight seconds remaining to even the season series at 1-1. CC took the first meeting, 78-66, on Jan.4 at UD. Chris Lesnansky led Colorado College with a game-high 22 points, while Ryan Milne scored 18 points and dished out five assists in his final home appearance. Tramutolo went 2-for-3 from long distance and finished the game with 500 career points. Russell Clark came off the bench to add 10 points. The Tigers won’t need to wait long for a chance to avenge the setback. CC plays Dallas in the opening round of the SCAC Tournament on Friday at 3 p.m. CT.

Dallas closed-out conference-play with a 1-0 week. On Saturday, in Colorado Springs, Colo., the Crusaders won 67-66 over Colorado College. Senior forward/center Ross Davidson, a three-year letterwinner, eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau in the contest. Head coach Jarred Samples’ squad enters the SCAC Championship Tournament as the No. 5 seed, and will rematch with No. 4 seed Colorado on Friday at 3 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas. Up first, however, for Dallas is a senior-night game versus the University of California-Santa Cruz. Before tonight’s 7 p.m. tip-off with the Banana Slugs, Davidson and senior guard Nate Wilson will be honored in a pregame ceremony at the Maher Athletic Center.

Schreiner
went 1-0 with a home victory over Texas Lutheran (80-71) to finish the  regular season. At the end of the regular season, Schreiner is being led by Senior AJ Myres, who is second in the SCAC in scoring with a 18.8 ppg average and Junior Stevan Guerrero, who leads the ‘Neers with 6 rebounds per game average, along with a 14.3 ppg. The Mountaineers will face Austin College in the first round of the SCAC Tournament.

Southwestern went 1-1 this week to close out the regular season at 8-17 overall and 4-10 in the SCAC. The Pirates executed their game plan to a tee in the first half against Trinity Friday night and led at halftime, but the Tigers pulled away in the second half to defeat SU 57-41. Saturday,
Southwestern hosted UC Santa Cruz for a non-conference game and senior night. SU was outstanding defensively in the first half and controlled the game in the second half to win 64-55. The Pirates enter the SCAC Conference Tournament as the #7 seed, facing Centenary in the first round at 5 p.m. on Friday in San Antonio.

Texas Lutheran shot a season-high 63.5 percent and ended its seven-game home losing streak, defeating Dallas Christian 87-69 in the Bulldogs’ home finale on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs were absolutely on fire all game on its way to a season-best performance. The second half was a perfect way to close out the home schedule as they shot a scorching 71 percent, missing just seven shots in the entire half (17-of-24). Despite a career-high 18 points from Troy Griffith in his final regular season game in a Bulldog uniform, the Bulldogs couldn’t overcome a 20-point deficit at halftime, falling to Schreiner 80-71 on the road in the season finale Saturday. Griffith (San Antonio, Texas), a senior, scored those 18 points on 4-of-7 shooting while making nine of his 10 free throws to cap a season-ending stretch that saw him score in double figures in five of the last six games, including three times tying or setting a new career high. Eleven of those 18 points came in the second half and helped lead a charge that saw the Bulldogs close a 20-point halftime deficit to as few as nine with under two minutes to go. The Bulldogs wouldn’t get any closer though, as Schreiner’s hot-shooting first half proved too much to overcome.

Trinity finished off the regular season with a 57-41 win at Southwestern on Friday night, clinching the top seed at this weekend’s SCAC Tournament in San Antonio.  After shooting just 28% from the field and trailing 27-21 by halftime, the Tigers rallied for a 36-point second half to pull away with the key victory. Robert Kitzinger scored nine points to move into a tie for ninth in school history in career points, drawing even with Ryan Hyslop (1995-00) with 1,346 points.  Zach Lambert finished with 12 points for 1,119 in his career, which puts him 18th on the all-time list. Additionally, Kitzinger is just five three-point field goals from tying the Trinity career record of 225, set by Rich Skeen from 1990-94.  Kitzinger is already the only Tiger player ever to score 50 or more three-point baskets in each of his four seasons with the team. Trinity will begin the SCAC Tournament against Texas Lutheran on Friday afternoon, and will be seeking its third consecutive conference title.  The Tigers swept the Bulldogs during the regular season, winning 70-54 in Seguin, as well as taking a 64-37 home win in early January.
