James Hill Hired as SCAC Assistant Commissioner

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) has rounded out its office staff for the 2013-14 academic year with the hiring of James Hill as the league’s next Assistant Commissioner.

A former SCAC student-athlete, Hill was most recently the Director of Sports Information at LeTourneau University, a NCAA Division III institution located in Longview, Texas, where he was the primary media contact for all 13 varsity sports and in charge of administering the school's athletic website as well as the athletic department's Facebook and Twitter pages.

Prior to his one year at LeTourneau, Hill worked as the Sports Information Director at his alma mater and former SCAC member Millsaps College.

"As a former student-athlete of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, I have long admired what the conference has been able to accomplish for Division III athletics and student-athletes in particular,” said Hill. “I am honored to take the role of Assistant Commissioner and am grateful for the opportunity given to me by Commissioner Hanberry and the SCAC President's Council. With the conference moving to eight schools, I look forward to bringing continued excellence to the SCAC name in the days, weeks and months ahead."

In addition to his work at Millsaps, Hill has prior experience with the conference as the play-by-play announcer at the 2011 and 2012 SCAC Baseball Tournaments as well as the 2010 and 2011 SCAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments.

As a student-athlete at Millsaps, Hill was a member of a Majors’ football program that won three consecutive SCAC championships.

“The SCAC is excited to have James coming aboard with the conference office,” said SCAC Commissioner Dwayne Hanberry. “I am very familiar with James’ work while he was at Millsaps – both as a student-assistant and as the school’s sports information director – and I have always been impressed with his energy, his enthusiasm and his dedication to his craft.”

“Additionally, James already has a working relationship with many of our league’s SIDs, and his prior knowledge of SCAC policies and procedures should allow him to hit the ground running this fall.”

Hill will officially begin his position with the SCAC office on August 1.
