Colorado College 17th, Southwestern and Trinity Receiving Votes in AVCA Preseason Polls

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Preseason poll was released on Wednesday afternoon with three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schools making the cut in the first polls of 2013.

Three time defending SCAC champion Colorado College headlined the SCAC's selections as the Tigers enter the 2013 season ranked 17th in the nation. Colorado College finished last season with a 23-10 record. The Tigers have been to the NCAA Tournament 15 straight times, last season they fell to Puget Sound, 3-1, in the First Round.

Southwestern University, which finished 24-12 last season, will begin the season with 28 receiving votes, checking in at 34th. The Pirates finished in third place at the 2012 SCAC championship tournament. They also made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, but fell in the first round to Cal Lutheran, 3-1.

Last year's SCAC runners-up, Trinity University enters the 2013 campaign ranked with 17 receiving votes (38th overall) as they finished with a 20-16 record a season ago. The Tigers also made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, falling to Juniata, 3-0. 

Defending National Champion St. Thomas (MN) unanimously took the top spot in the polls after posting a 39-1 record a year ago.
