Centenary's Blount Repeats as SCAC Player of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - For the second straight week, senior guard Jonathon Blount of Centenary College has earned SCAC Player of the Week honors after yet another outstanding performance. He has now earned Player of the Week three times this season.

 



 

 

SCAC PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of February 3rd – February 9th

JONATHAN BLOUNT OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior guard from Shreveport, La., has been selected the SCAC Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 3rd  through Sunday, February 9th.

Blount averaged 23.0 points in Centenary's three games this week including tying his career-high of 31 points in a 75-57 win over the SCAC's top-ranked Trinity University

He scored 18 earlier in the week in a win over Austin College and followed that up with a 20 point showing against Southwestern. For the week, Blount also dished out a total of nine assists, recorded nine rebounds and blocked a shot in 96 minutes of action.

The Shreveport, La., native shot 55.6 percent from the field along with a 45.5 clip from behind the arc. Blount was also 24 for 25 from the charity stripe for the week. 

Blount has propelled the Gents' six-game win streak and move the squad to within a game of Trinity in the conference standings. 

Blount has scored in double-digits in all 42 games in the SCAC and has a double figure scoring streak of 50 games dating back to his sophomore season. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman guard Brian Baehl of Austin College had a strong all around weekend for Austin College, averaging 9.5 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game while hitting 12-of-15 free throws and only turning the ball over twice. Junior forward Chris Lesnansky of Colorado College averaged 20.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as Colorado College split a pair of home games last weekend.   During Sunday's 70-69 victory over Texas Lutheran, Lesnansky poured in a career-high 30 points, including the go-ahead basket with 12 seconds to play. Junior forward Aaron Wyatt of Dallas scored 13.5 points/game and added 5.5 rebounds/game to lead the Crusaders to a split including an upset with over Schreiner. Junior guard Blake Scott of Southwestern averaged 21.5 points per game this week, shooting 78% from the floor and averaging 5.5 rebounds/game. Senior forward Troy Griffith of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs in scoring over the weekend, averaging 13.5 points per game and helping the Bulldogs to a road split against Dallas and Colorado College. Senior guard Robert Kitzinger of Trinity averaged 15 points/game for the weekend, and picked up four rebounds and three assists in each contest.  He shot 10-19 (52.6%) from the field and 4-10 (40%) from three-point range over the two games, as well as hitting 6-7 (85.7%) from the foul line.  Schreiner did not nominate anyone.
