TLU's Peavy and Sargent; Southwestern's Erwin Earn SCAC Football Player of the Week Honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Texas Lutheran's Brent Peavy and Broderick Sargent, along with Southwestern's Michael Erwin, have been tabbed SCAC Football Player-of-the-Week after their excellent performance this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, October 12th

BRENT PEAVY OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 5-10, 207-pound senior quarterback from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Players-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 12th. 

Peavy completed his first 15 passes of the day and set the offensive tone Saturday in the Bulldogs' 45-12 SCAC-title clinching win over Austin College.

Peavy threw three touchdowns and for 363 yards in the TLU victory, and completed 22-of-29 passes without an interception.

It is the senior's second SCAC Offensive POTW award this season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman quarterback Dante Smith of Southwestern finished with his second three touchdown performance and threw for over 300 yards for the first in his career, going 26-56 for 310 yards and a trio of touchdowns. Sophomore tight end Sam Harford of Trinity caught just three passes, but two were for touchdowns, as he totaled a game-best 134 yards receiving on the afternoon. Austin College did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, October 12th

BRODERICK SARGENT OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 6-1, 204-pound freshman defensive lineman from Waxahachie, Texas has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 12th.

Sargent collected two sacks and a forced fumble that was recovered by TLU in the Bulldogs' 45-12 win over Austin College.

Sargent finished second on the team in total tackles, with six, and had 28 yards in losses on his two tackles for loss.

The Bulldogs forced two turnovers and was able to fluster the Austin College offense for a great portion of the contest.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman defensive lineman Justin Broussard of Southwestern finished with 8 tackles in the Pirates loss to Oklahoma Baptist as continued his impressive pace adding his fifth sack of the season with one quarterback hurry and a tackle for a loss. Senior defensive lineman Bradley Drenon of Trinity tallied eight total tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss of 11 yards in the game against the Majors, and also recorded three quarterback hurries. Austin College did not nominate anyone.



 

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, October 12th

MICHAEL ERWIN OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a 5-10, 164-pound freshman punter from Portland, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 12th.

Erwin played a critical role in Saturday's contest, helping the Pirate defense with 10 punts against Oklahoma Baptist. He placed three of those punts inside the 20-yard line and had a long of 51-yards while averaging 41.4 yards per punt.

In addition, Erwin also recorded two tackles on defense helping in the secondary for Southwestern.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior kicker Tyler Bradenburg of Texas Lutheran
connected on a 32-yard field goal against Austin College to stretch his made field goal streak to three and also made six more PATs to keep his PAT streak a perfect 23-for-23 in 2013. Austin College and Trinity did not nominate anyone.
