Southwestern's Drummond; Trinity's Courtney Named SCAC Volleyball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southwestern's Olivia Drummond and Trinity's Shannon Courtney have been named SCAC Volleyball Players of the Week for Week 9 after a terrific performance this past weekend to lead their respective teams.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 21st – October 27th

OLIVIA DRUMMOND OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore middle blocker from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Volleyball Offensive Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 21st through Sunday, October 27th. 

Drummond led Southwestern in kills this weekend with 41 and posted a .333 attack percentage to lead the Pirates to a 3-1 record over the weekend. 

Drummond averaged just under 3.5 kills per set, head and shoulders above any other Pirate. In 93 attempts she had just 11 errors. She also added in five blocks and five digs. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior outside hitter Shelby Eaves of Austin College averaged 4.0 kills and 3.75 digs per set as Austin College went 2-2 last weekend at the SCAC Cross-Divisional. Freshman outside hitter Abbe Holtz of Colorado College averaged 3.77 kills and 3.46 digs per set to help Colorado College win three of four matches last weekend. Junior outside hitter Veronica Castillo of Schreiner had 58 kills in 169 attempts for a .195 attack pct. on the week, with a 14-3-27 (.407) performance vs. Centenary. Senior setter Manda Martin of Texas Lutheran led the way for the Bulldogs in a 1-3 weekend, recording 115 total assists and averaging 8.21 assists per set. Junior outside hitter Maggie Emodi of Trinity paced the Tiger offense with 37 kills over the weekend, averaging 3.08 kills/set, and posting a hitting percentage of .260 for the four matches. Centenary and Dallas did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 21st – October 27th

SHANNON COURTNEY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore defensive specialist from Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played Monday, October 21st through Sunday, October 27th. 

Courtney led Trinity to four wins at this weekend's SCAC Divisional Tournament to secure the conference's top seed, highlighted by a win over eighth-ranked Colorado College.

Courtney posted 66 total digs over the weekend, averaging 5.50/set to lead the Tiger defense. She also finished with just two reception errors in the four matches, and also led all Trinity players with nine service aces.

Against Colorado College, Courtney had a match-high 27 digs, no reception errors, and four aces. The four aces tied her personal season-best total, which the 27 digs was a season-best for the sophomore libero. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore libero Rachel Fusselman of Austin College had one of her best weekends of the season at the SCAC Cross-Divisional, totaling 84 digs for an average of 5.25 per set. Junior libero Sophie Merrifield of Colorado College recorded 28 digs in the sweep of Southwestern and 23 in the four-set loss to Trinity, giving her 12 matches with more than 20 digs this year. Freshman outside hitter/defensive specialist Jessie Koster of Dallas recorded 73 digs including 5.61 digs per set to lead the Crusaders to a 1-3 weekend. Senior libero Jamie Burns of Schreiner had 80 digs and four service aces for Schreiner with a 32 dig performance against Dallas. Junior defensive specialist/libero Chandler Lentz of Southwestern had 70 digs on the weekend, averaging 5.83 per set as the Pirates went 3-1. Junior defensive specialist/libero Megan Lee of Texas Lutheran was at the center of the Bulldog defense, racking up 76 digs over the weekend and averaging 6.91 digs per set. Centenary did not nominate anyone.
