Trinity's Jorgens and Sparks Sweep SCAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week Honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity University teammates Emily Jorgens and Tara Sparks swept SCAC Women's Soccer Players-of-the-Week honors after their tremendous performance this past weekend in conference play.

 

 





SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 7th – October 13th

EMILY JORGENS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior midfielder from Austin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, October 7th through Sunday, October 13th. 

Jorgens led Trinity to wins over Southwestern and Dallas this past week, improving the team's winning streak to 10 games.

Jorgens finished with two goals and three assists over the week's action, and had a hand in both game-winners. She assisted on the opening goal of the 3-0 win over Southwestern,

then netted her first of two goals in the sixth minute against Dallas. That goal wound up as the game-winner, then she had another goal and two assists in the second half of play.

For the season, Jorgens has scored 14 goals and 11 assists for 39 total points, and leads the team in each category. She also has connected for five game-winning goals for the Tigers, which is also a team-best. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior midfielder Mandi Sherwood of Austin College tallied the game tying goal in a win against Schreiner and assisted on the team's lone goal in a draw with Texas Lutheran as the 'Roos ran their unbeaten streak to four games. Freshman midfielder Yahaira Montes of Schreiner had one goal and helped lead Schreiner to their first victory of the year and in the SCAC. Senior midfielder Lindsay Jakszta of Southwestern recorded two goals and two assists against Dallas last weekend. Sophomore forward Sioned Kirkpatrick of Texas Lutheran finished two games with three goals, one of which was a hat trick and took 11 shot, seven of those were on goal. Centenary and Dallas did not nominate anyone for Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 7th – October 13th

TARA SPARKS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior defender from McAllen, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, October 7th through Sunday, October 13th. 

Sparks  led Trinity to a pair of SCAC victories over the weekend,  including a shutout of Southwestern on Tuesday night.

Sparks and the Tiger defense recorded their eighth shutout of the season on Tuesday, followed by a 7-1 win over Dallas on Friday evening. Sparks also assisted on the gamewinning goal against Dallas, marking her fourth assist this season.

For the season, Sparks has started all 13 Trinity games, and the Tigers have allowed just five total goals in those games. She has recorded four assists to lead all defenders for Trinity.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
nine saves and an overtime victory over Centenary. Freshman defender Megan McGrath of Southwestern 
led the Pirates defense and scored the first goal last Sunday. Freshman defender Tara Armstrong 
of Texas Lutheran helped limit the opposition to just two goals and 15 shots on goal over the
weekend. Austin College, Centenary, and Dallas did not nominate anyone for Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors.
