SCAC Lands 11 on NSCAA All-Region Team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A total of 11 student-athletes from Colorado College, Southwestern University, and Trinity University were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-West Region Team on Monday evening.

Trinity senior Yuri Ribeiro and Darren McAfee and junior Victor Araujo as well as Colorado College senior Brandon Ogilvie were named First Team All-West Region.

Ribeiro, a senior out of Salvador, Brazil, was named SCAC Offensive Player of the Year and has contributed greatly to Trinity’s success in 2013. The two-time All-American has scored nine goals (one game-winner) and dished out 14 assists during the regular season. He added a goal and four assists during the Tigers playoff run that went all the want to the Quarterfinals. He is in sixth place in Trinity’s record books in the single-season assists category.

McAfee, a senior out of Albuquerque, N.M., had five goals and two assists during the campaign and was named First Team All-SCAC. He added a goal and an assist durng Trinity's run in the postseason and was a leader among the team all season long.

Araujo, a junior out of Salvador, Brazil, was responsible for 11 goals, with a team-leading five game-winners. Araujo also shelled out eight assists, second-best on the squad and was a First Team All-SCAC selections. He earlier was named the SCAC Tournament Offensive MVP and is the only non-senior to be named to First Team All-Region.

Ogilvie, a senior out of Manchester Center, Vt.,  earned his first all-conference recognition after leading the SCAC in goals (14), points (25) and game-winning goals (7) during the regular season. He also tied for seventh with five assists. Ogilvie recorded three multiple-goal games during the 2013 campaign, including his first career hat trick in the 4-1 victory over Schreiner University on Oct. 18.

Junior Andrew Worthington of Colorado College, junior Jonny Lawson of Trinity, and senior Matthew Nickell and junior Steven Resnik of Southwestern all earned Second Team honors.

Worthington, a junior from Hinsdale, Ill., led the team with 2,003 minutes played, going the distance in 20 of 22 games. He anchored a defense that finished second in the league with 10 shutouts and finished third with a 1.24 goals-against average. He was a First Team All-SCAC selection.

Lawson, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, scored 14 goals (three game-winners), along with six assists, leading a prolific offense that produced 84 goals the regular season. He also added a goal in the postseason. He was a First Team All-SCAC selection.

Nickell, a senior from Aledo, Texas, led the backline for the Pirates that allowed just 24 goals in 22 games, recording eight shutouts this season. He was also a big part of the offensive attack, as the third leading goal scorer for the Pirates with four goals and third in assists with five. He was a First Team All-SCAC selection.

Resnik, a senior from Austin, Texas, was a catalyst for Southwestern's offense and was the leading point getter and goal scorer with nine goals and 19 points. Resnik also led the Pirates with five game winning goals this season including the final goal in overtime as the Pirates took down Colorado College in the SCAC Conference Tournament Semifinal thriller. He was a First Team All-SCAC selection.

Rounding things out on the Third Team is senior goalkeeper Daniel Poole of Southwestern, junior goalkeeper Matt Cardone of Trinity, and senior Sean Parham of Colorado College.

Poole, a senior from Shreveport, La., was nearly impenetrable in goal for Southwestern as he posted seven shutouts, a 0.96 goals against average and .833 save percentage this season. Poole was also earned the Defensive MVP award for the SCAC Conference Tournament after helping the Pirates advance to the finals with two penalty kick saves and a tournament-high 13 saves. He was a Second Team All-SCAC selection.

Cardone, a junior form San Antonio, Texas, yielded only seven goals in the regular season, for a 0.41 goals-against average. Cardone has posted 36 saves, and is credited for six of the Tigers 15 shutouts this year. He added a pair of shutouts in the First and Second Round of the NCAA Championships. He was a First Team All-SCAC selection.

Colorado College's captain, Parham, a senior from Fayetteville, Ark., tied for third on the team with four assists, finished fourth with four goals and was fifth with 12 points. Parham struck for the deciding tally in victories over the University of Dallas (3-1) and at Austin College (2-0), giving him a career total of five game winners. He was a Second Team All-SCAC selection.
