Trinity Men Head to UT-Dallas to Take on Whitworth in NCAA First Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Trinity University, the 2013-14 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball champions, will take on Whitworth (Wash.) University in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship. Trinity beat Centenary College, 82-70, in yesterday's SCAC championship game to earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Senior guard Robert Kitzginer had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead the Tigers in the title game and was named the SCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Trinity (19-9), which won its third straight SCAC championship, will take on the Northwest Conference champion Whitworth University (22-5) on Friday, March 7 at a time to be determined.

The two played in this year's season-opener with Whitworth prevailing 71-53 in Tacoma, Wash.

On the other side of the four-team pod, the host school, UT-Dallas (23-5), will meet Chapman University from Orange, California (18-9) with the winner advancing to play the Trinity/Whitworth winner on Saturday.

The Tigers are in the NCAA tournament for the 10th time and hold a 6-9 all-time record in NCAA tournament play in their nine previous trips to the national tournament. The SCAC is 0-2 against the Northwest Conference teams in NCAA postseason play.
