Southwestern's Brett Marcom Named Division III National Pitcher of the Week by NCBWA

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Freshman pitcher Brett Marcom of Southwestern University continues to wrap up weekly awards as he was named the second NCAA Division III National Pitcher of the Week honors for 2014 as voted on by a panel of D-III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Marcom, a freshman right-hander from Keller, Texas, threw a seven inning no hitter on March 8th facing just three batters over the minimum for his second win of the year and gave Southwestern their first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory of the year over Schreiner.

It was first no-hitter thrown by a SCAC pitcher since Lee Schurlknight of Sewanee tossed a seven-inning no-hitter against Rust College on March 10, 2011. It is the first no-hitter in conference competition since Trinity University's Chuck Huggins no-hit Hendrix College on April 9, 2006

Marcom, who was also selected the SCAC Pitcher of the Week and was named to the D3baseball.com Team-of-the-Week, recorded five strikeouts and just two walks for the complete game shutout. It was his second win of the season to go to 2-3 and his first complete game shutout of his young career.

Marcom shared this award with Andy Sadoski, the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference's Pitcher-of-the-Week from Bridgewater State, who also threw a no-hitter.
