LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -Texas Lutheran moves to 6-0 on the season and breaks into the AFCA Top 25 poll for the first time this season. Austin College also increased their home winning streak to three games as they knocked off Hendrix in an explosive game. With the final three weeks approaching, SCAC play returns despite the title already residing in Seguin with Southwestern and Austin College squaring off this weekend.

The Austin College football team ran its home
win streak to three games with a 45-38 victory over Hendrix College
on Homecoming Weekend in Sherman, piling up 344 yards on the ground
and 225 more through the air. After not having had two players
eclipse the 100 yard mark in the same game since 2009, the
‘Roos have now done that two weeks in a row with James
Nwankpah rushing for 202 yards and Bryce Murphy adding 111, with
each back getting a touchdown in the victory. Nwankpah averaged 8.8
yards per carry and the team average was 7.5 for the game, while
Noah Jesko completed 15-of-23 passes for 225 yards and threw four
first half touchdowns and no interceptions. Travis McClinton had
five catches for 88 yards while Mitch Trentman had two receiving
touchdowns and Brandon Rawls and Cooper Woodyard each scored once
through the air as well. Brooks Ward led the defense with 14
tackles and Jantzen Foster had 12 stops, forced a fumble, and
recovered a fumble. Andrew Klink also drilled a career-long 45 yard
field goal in the victory, which brings the team’s record to
3-5 overall this season. This weekend the ‘Roos travel to
Georgetown to take on Southwestern University, which they defeated
31-0 earlier this season.
Southwestern was idle this past weekend. The Pirates will return home next weekend as they welcome in the Austin College ‘Roos for their final home game of the season as well as their second SCAC game of the year. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Texas Lutheran is 6-0 for the first time since 1976, when the Bulldogs entered the NAIA-II national semifinal game at 10-0. The Bulldogs, with fourth-year head coach Danny Padron, have won seven straight games dating back to last season. The Bulldogs return home to Seguin’s Matador Stadium for next Saturday’s 1 p.m. contest with Louisiana College. TLU will have live video and live stats on tlubulldogs.com. Seguin’s KWED 1580 AM will have the radio call and an audio-only webcast at seguintoday.com. Pre-game coverage starts at 12:30 p.m. TLU and LC are both receiving votes in the latest D3football.com poll. Each team received three voting points this week.. TLU fell in overtime in Pineville, La. to Louisiana College last season. LC defeated TLU 44-37. TLU quarterback Brent Peavy did not play in the second half against Mississippi College due to injury. Trenton White played the entire second half for the Bulldogs and led TLU on two scoring drives.
Trinity fell to 4-4 after a narrow 21-17 road loss in its first-ever meeting against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers have now lost three of their last four games, after opening the season with a 3-1 record. Trinity lost on Saturday, despite giving up just 256 yards of offense in the game – 142 of which came on the opening drives of both halves. Other than those two scoring drives, the Tiger defense gave up just 114 yards on seven possessions. Trinity also did not allow a third down conversion after the game’s opening drive. Quarterback Stephen Smith threw for a career-best 306 yards in the game, marking the second Tiger QB to reach 300 yards this season. It is the first time since Coach Mohr took over the program in 1990 that two different players have thrown for 300 yards or more in a game during the same season. Trinity will be off this week, before finishing off SCAC play with games against Southwestern and Austin College. The Tigers previously beat both teams in non-conference matchups earlier this season.
