Centenary's Blount Earns SCAC Player of the Week for Fourth Time

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - It was a record breaking week for senior guard Jonathan Blount of Centenary College. Blount set the record for free throws made (19) and attempted (22) in a game while finishing with the second most prolific scoring week in conference history. He earns his fourth SCAC Player of the Week for his outstanding effort.

 

 

 

SCAC PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of February 17th – February 23rd

JONATHAN BLOUNT OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior guard from Shreveport, La., has been selected the SCAC Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 17th  through Sunday, February 23rd.

Blount averaged an astonishing 44.5 points over two games this week including setting Centenary's single-game scoring record and scoring the second most points in SCAC history with 53 points against Open Bible College. 

Blount followed the effort with 36 points in the Gents regular season finale assisting the squad in clinching the No. 2 seed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. 

Blount shot 58.7 percent from the floor on the week and connected on 40 percent from behind the arc. Blount was also 80 percent from the charity stripe. He averaged 5.0 rebounds including grabbing a season-high eight boards in the win over Austin College.

Blount's 44.5 points per game is second all time for a week to only eric Ochel of Sewanee, who scored 55, the SCAC single game record, and 36 to average 45.5 points.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman guard Brian Baehl of Austin College had a big weekend for Austin College, averaging 17.0 points, 5.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game while hitting 13-of-21 shots in two games. Baehl scored a career high 25 against Centenary. Senior guard Ryan Milne of Colorado College scored 18 points and dished out five assists during Saturday's 67-66 loss to the University of Dallas. Senior guard Nate Wilson of Dallas led the way with 14 points including the game winning basket to give the Crusaders the upset over Colorado College as well as the No. 5 seed. Senior guard Stevan Guerrero of Schreiner helped lead the Mountaineers in a victory over Texas Lutheran with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists, and a steal. Senior guard Chase Kocher of Southwestern averaged 11.5 points per game this week and also pulled down 5.5 boards per game. He added in six assists and three steals.  Junior guard Jordan Alderman of Texas Lutheran enjoyed the best offensive week of his TLU career last week. Coming into the week averaging 2.2 points per game this year, but broke out in a big way, averaging 17 points per contest in two games this week. Junior guard Matt Selling of Trinity knocked down 4-4 three-point buckets to tie for the team lead with 12 points on Friday night.  Selling hit two of those long-range field goals in less than a minute's time during a 12-1 run that put the Tigers ahead for good early in the second half.
