Trinity's Emodi, Cusenbary; Southwestern's Pool Named SCAC Volleyball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity's Maggie Emodi and Erin Cusenbary and Southwestern's Macey Pool have been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Players of the Week after leading both of their teams to huge weekends in San Antonio.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 14th – October 20th

MACEY POOL OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore outside and right side hitter from Spring, Texas and MAGGIE EMODI OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior outside hitter from Omaha, Neb., has been selected the SCAC Volleyball Co-Offensive Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 14th through Sunday, October 20th. 

Pool had 63 kills, averaging just under four per set, and a .240 attack percentage. She added one ace, 66 digs and three blocks.

Pool led the Pirates to a 4-0 record over the weekend including a 12 kill performance in a win over the No. 12 team in the nation, Eastern, and a 19 kill performance in a win over the Redlands.

Emodi recorded four consecutive double-doubles in kills and digs, tallying 50 kills (3.57/set) and 63 digs (4.50/set) to lead the team in both categories.  Emodi also added 10 blocks (0.71/set) and three service aces for the weekend.  

Against 12th-ranked Eastern, Emodi hit a blistering .429 (10 kills, 1 error, 21 attacks) to lead Trinity to a 3-0 victory. She finished the weekend with 20 kills and 27 digs to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 comeback win over Webster, clinching the undefeated weekend and the tournament title.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior outside hitter Shelby Eaves of Austin College had 19 kills and only four attacking errors for a hitting percentage of .357 to lead the 'Roos to a 3-0 win in their lone match of the week. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Hahn of Colorado College hit .314 and averaged 3.57 kills per set as Colorado College split a pair of matches last week. Sophomore middle blocker Jaime Birzer of Dallas led the Crusaders with 41 kills to lead them to a 4-0 week. Senior middle hitter Veronica Castillo of Schreienr had 12 kills, 5 errors, in 30 attempts for a .233 attack pct. against OLLU. Centenary and Texas Lutheran were idle this past weekend.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 14th – October 20th

ERIN CUSENBARY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior middle blocker from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played Monday, October 14th through Sunday, October 20th. 

Cusenbary led Trinity to a 4-0 record at the Trinity Fall Classic over the weekend, earning the Tournament MVP award for her performance.

Cusenbary finished the weekend with an astounding 23 blocks in 14 sets played, averaging 1.64 blocks/set for the weekend, and recording just one blocking error. She also tallied 32 kills and hit a team-best .352 for the four matches.

Her best match came against 12th-ranked Eastern on Friday night, tallying nine blocks to go with seven digs and a .400 hitting percentage. She also recorded 11 kills and five blocks in the tournament finale against Webster.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior libero Sophie Merrifield of Colorado College averaged 4.86 digs per set as Colorado College split a pair of matches last week. Freshman outside hitter/defensive specialist Jessie Koster of Dallas recorded 45 digs en rout to a 4-0 week for the Crusaders. Senior libero Jamie Burns of Schreiner had 38 digs and two service aces for Schreiner with a 22 dig performance against Howard Payne. Junior defensive specialist/libero Chandler Lentz of Southwestern recorded 71 digs, averaging 4.44 per set, and had three aces and 12 assists. Austin College did not nominate anyone. Centenary and Texas Lutheran were idle this past weekend.
