TLU's McGuire. Dowling; Austin College's Nwankpah Named SCAC Football Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Texas Lutheran's Adam McGuire and Drake Dowling improved the Bulldogs to 6-0 and a spot in AFCA Top 25 Polls while James Nwankpah of Austin College had a 200 yard day to move their home winning streak to three games.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, October 26th

JAMES NWANKPAH OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a 6-2, 210-pound senior running back from Arlington, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Players-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 26th. 

Nwankpah led the 'Roos to their third straight home win, defeating Hendrix 45-38 last weekend.

Nwankpah rushed 23 times for 202 yards and had a 57 yard touchdown to lead the 'Roos past Hendrix, making this the third time in the last four games the senior running back has eclipsed the 100 yard mark and the first time since early in the 2012 season that a 'Roo has surpassed 200 yards rushing in a game. 

Nwankpah is now second in the conference in rushing yards.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman running back Marquis Barrolle of Texas Lutheran rushed for a career-best 128 yards and scored two touchdowns in the Bulldogs' 35-32 road win over Mississippi College. Junior wide receiver Matthew Kennemer of Trinity caught five passes for 84 yards to lead all players in the game, which included a 23-yard touchdown early in the second quarter and also threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Sam Harford to put the Tigers up 17-14 late in the third quarter. Southwestern was idle this past weekend.

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, October 26th

ADAM McGUIRE OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 5-11, 200-pound junior linebacker from Houston, Texas has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 26th.

McGuire intercepted a pair of passes in a game for the second consecutive week to lead the Bulldogs to a 35-32 win against Mississippi College on the road. 

McGuire stepped in front of a pass in the first quarter, and the Bulldogs turned that turnover into a 61-yard TD drive. 

McGuire's
second interception came on Mississippi College's last possession of the game and ended the final Choctaws' scoring threat. He also registered five total tackles (four solo) and a tackle for loss of five yards.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior linebacker Jantzen Foster of Austin College had a big game for Austin College in a victory over Hendrix, making 12 tackles including seven solo tackles and added a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup in the win. Junior linebacker Tomy Boboy of Trinity had nine total tackles in the game, and the defense allowed just 256 yards of offense and the team did not allow a third down conversion after the game's opening drive, and gave up just 176 yards on eight possessions after Case's 80-yard scoring drive to start the day. Southwestern was idle this past weekend.
 

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, October 26th

DRAKE DOWLING OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 5-8, 183-pound sophomore safety from Katy, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 26th.

Dowling took the short snap on a fake punt and rumbled 21 yards for a key fourth-down conversion on 4th-and-1 from the TLU 37. 

The fake punt and run by Dowling allowed TLU to run more clock and leave MC with only 18 seconds to mount a final scoring effort. Dowling's fake punt rush came with 2:22 remaining in the game. 

Dowling also contributed defensively throughout the game. He took a fumble return 86 yards for a score, broke up two passes, had two tackles for loss, and registered eight total tackles (seven solo).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman kicker returner Kevin Ray of Austin College had a career long 45 yard kick return and averaged 30.0 yards per return in a victory over Hendrix College on Saturday.. Trinity did not nominate anyone. Southwestern was idle this past weekend.
