Centenary went 0-3 on the week at the SCAC Group-B Divisional to open conference play. The Ladies fell in straight sets to No. 11 Colo- rado College and Austin College and fell in four sets to the University of Dallas. Sarah Sumner led the Ladies with 37 kills and five blocks on the weekend while finishing third on the team in digs with 20. Beth Nuttall tallied 57 assists during the three-match span while Brooke Bahlinger posted a team-leading 27 digs. Centenary returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 24 as the ladies travel to East Texas Baptist for a 7 p.m. match.

No. 11 Colorado College set the program record for consecutive wins to open a season with victories over Austin College and the University of Dallas on Saturday. Not only did the Tigers extend their winning streak to 15 matches, it improved to 3-0 in league play and maintained a share of first place atop the league standings with Trinity University. CC also has won 45 of 49 sets in 2013. Freshman outside hitter Abbe Holtze recorded nine kills and a .421 attack percentage as Colorado College began conference play with a sweep of Centenary. The Tigers tied the record of 14 consecutive victories out of the gate set by the 1985 squad with a four-set triumph over Austin in Saturday’s first match. Sophomore outside hitter Emily Phillips posted a team-high 15 kills and 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Holtz finished with 11 kills and 13 digs to reach double figures in both categories for the fourth time, while sophomore opposite hitter Courtney Birkett accomplished the feat for the first time with 10 kills and 10 digs. Colorado College made it 15 victories in a row with a sweep of Dallas. Phillips posted 10 kills and 10 digs to pace the Tigers. Sophomore setter Devon Lucero hit .500 with five kills on 10 attempts, while junior middle hitter Kristen Liberty hit. 400 with seven kills on 15 attacks. The Tigers return to Texas for four matches next Saturday and Sun- day at Southwestern University.

The Dallas volleyball team (7-8, 1-2 SCAC) went 3-2 at home on the week in Irving, Texas. On Thursday, at the Maher Athletic Center, the Crusaders won 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-19) over Arlington Baptist College, before adding a 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-22) sweep of Jarvis Christian College (Okla.). Head coach Amy Byfield’s squad opened conference-play Friday with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 26-24) loss to Austin College. On Saturday, Dallas triumphed 3-1 (20-25, 25-13, 25-15, 25-21) over Cente- nary College of Louisiana, before falling 3-0 (20-25, 20-25, 15-25) to No. 11 Colorado College. Dallas will trek to Georgetown, Texas, this week for four conference matches at Southwestern University -- Trinity (Saturday, 10:30 a.m.); Texas Lutheran (Saturday, 3 p.m.); Schreiner (Sunday, 10 a.m.); Southwestern (Sunday, 4 p.m.).

The Schreiner Mountaineers (3-9, 0-3 SCAC) went 1-3 on the weekend. On Tuesday, Schreiner took a match over Howard Payne 3-0 and then lost all three weekend conference matches to Texas Lu- theran, Trinity, and Southwestern. Schreiner will continue SCAC play this weekend with matches against Colorado and Austin on Saturday and Dallas and Centenary on Sunday in Georgetown, Texas.

Southwestern volleyball went 2-1 in their first SCAC weekend to move to 10-5 on the year. The Pirates opened with conference rival Trinity and the match is what fans have come to expect from this matchup. Southwestern fell behind early, dropping the opening two matches before rallying to force a fifth set. Trinity rallied late to seize the win, 3-2. SU rebounded with two huge wins on Saturday, defeating Texas Lutheran and Schreiner 3-0. The Pirates come home for the first time this season to host the first conference divisional and open against Austin College on Saturday at 12:30.

The Texas Lutheran volleyball squad opened up its inaugural SCAC season with a resounding 3-0 sweep on the road against Schreiner on Friday night. Against Schreiner the Bulldogs were dominant, holding the Mountaineers to -.074 hitting on the night. That figure was the lowest the Bulldogs have allowed all season. A big reason for that defensive success was the nine blocks the Bulldogs recorded over the three sets. Three different players all recorded at least three blocks. Offensively, the Bulldogs were led by Vanecia Spencer. The junior was the only Texas Lutheran player to notch double-digit kills, tallying 10 on efficient .500 hitting. The Bulldogs dropped the last two contests over the weekend, falling 3-0 to Southwestern and 3-1 to Trinity. Trinity runs were what hurt Texas Lutheran in that match. A 7-0 run in the second set, a 9-1 run in the third set and an 8-0 run in the fourth were the difference makers. Against South- western, one of the differences came at the net, where Southwestern tallied 10 blocks compared to three for the Bulldogs.

Trinity opened SCAC play with three wins at the SCAC A Group Divi- sional over the weekend, defeating Southwestern, Schreiner, and Texas Lutheran. The final win of the weekend was the 750th victory at Trinity for Head Coach Julie Jenkins.  Jenkins has recorded 779 wins over- all in her career. Kelsey Daniel recorded her 200th career block over the weekend, highlighted by a 10-block performance in a 3-2 win over Southwestern.  It marked the third time this season a Tiger player had 10 or more blocks.  Erin Cusenbary is now in the top 20 in blocks at Trinity with more than 250 in her career. Maryn Swierc also recently recorded a career milestone, reaching 1,000 career digs for the Tigers.  She is just the 22nd player in Trinity history to reach that number. Trinity continues SCAC action this weekend, heading to Georgetown, Texas, for the SCAC Cross Divisional.  The Tigers take on Dallas and Centenary on Saturday, followed by nationally-ranked Colorado College and Austin College on Sunday.
