LEXINGTON, Ky. - Five SCAC volleyball programs were honored for its outstanding performance in the classroom during the 2013-14 academic year as they received the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Centenary College, Colorado College, Schreiner University,
Southwestern University, and Trinity University were all
receipients of the award.
The award, which was first presented in 1993, honors volleyball
teams that maintained at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point
average on a 4.0 scale, or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0
scale.
In addition to their impressive performance in the classroom,
the Trinity (36-7), Southwestern (27-12), and Colorado College
(35-5) all advanced to the regional semifinals of the 2013 NCAA
Championship while Trinity and Colorado College reached the
regional final.
The 676 members represented is a new high for the award as is the
126 schools honored in Division III. Since the award's inception in
1993, the amount of award winners has increased from 62 to its
current number of 676.
The AVCA Team Academic Award has become one of the AVCA's fastest
growing awards programs, seeing an impressive surge in teams
honored over the past several years. Over 1,000 different schools
have earned the award in the program's 22-year history, with
exactly 6,126 awards been given out in total.
