Trinity's Flores, Bianchi Named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior catcher Chris Bianchi and sophomore pitcher Kevin Flores of Trinity University have been named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week after their outstanding performances this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  March 17th – March 23rd

CHRIS BIANCHI OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior catcher from San Diego, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 17th through Sunday, March 23rd.

Bianchi led Trinity to a 3-1 overall record last week, including a series win over Dallas over the weekend, winning two of three games.

Bianchi hit .438 (7-16) for the week, scoring three runs and driving in three more. He hit two home runs for the week, which came in consecutive games to start the week.  Against Dallas, Bianchi was even better, going 6-11 (.545) with two runs and two RBI in the three games.  

To open the week, Bianchi picked up his only hit of the game in the bottom of the 12th, crushing a leadoff home run to tie the game 4-4 and lead the Tigers to a comeback win.  He went 3-4 with two RBI in the opening game of the series against Dallas, then picked up three more hits in the next two games.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman outfielder Marcos Molina of Austin College had a big weekend, hitting .667 with four runs scored, two RBI, and was 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts as the ‘Roos took two of three against Schreiner. Freshman designated hitter Aaron Quintanilla of Centenary led the Gents at the plate going 7-for-15 with five RBI and four runs scored. He also logged five walks. Junior infielder/pitcher Trevor Keele of Dallas led the Crusaders at the plate going 5-for-9 with five RBIs and a grand slam as they took one over #1 Trinity. Sophomore designated hitter Chase Allen of Southwestern continued his hot streak as the sophomore extended his hitting streak to seven games which ties for the longest of the season, going 5-for-10 with six total bases. Junior outfielder Tony Gennusa of Texas Lutheran hit .333 with three RBI and a run scored in three games last week. Schreiner did not nominate anyone.

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  March 17th – March 23rd

KEVIN FLORES OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore right handed pitcher from Boulder, Colo., has been selected the SCAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 17th through Sunday, March 23rd.

Flores appeared in two games over the last week, helping the Tigers to a 3-1 overall record that included winning the weekend series against Dallas.

For the week, Flores was 1-0 with eight innings pitched, allowing one unearned run on four hits, and striking out six batters without allowing a walk.

In the series finale against Dallas, Flores pitched 7.1 innings of relief to earn the win, holding the Crusaders to just four hits and one unearned run, striking out four batters. He also struck out both batters he faced in game one of the series.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman pitcher Josh Lewis of Austin College had a strong game in earning his first collegiate victory, going 7.0 innings and surrendering three runs, two earned, in a 14-3 win over Schreiner. Sophomore pitcher Devin Bench of Centenary made three appearances over the week for the squad including a save. Bench tossed three innings allowing just one run – unearned – while striking out three. Sophomore pitcher Denton Martin of Dallas pitched seven innings, allowing nine hits and two earned runs while striking out two against Trinity. Senior pitcher Christian DeBlanc of Texas Lutheran picked up the first pitching victory of his career in five shutout innings against NAIA school Texas Wesleyan University. Schreiner and Soutwestern did not nominate anyone.
