Southwestern's Shea, Trinity's Jones, and Austin College's Price Named SCAC Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southwestern's Colten Shea, Trinity's Von'Darrick Jones, and Austin College's Jake Price were named Week 4's SCAC Football Players-of-the-Week for their outstanding performances this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 28

COLTEN SHEA OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a 5-10, 185-pound freshman wide receiver from Georgetown, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Players-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 28. 

Shea recorded his second game with over 150 yards receiving as the freshman added the first three touchdown performance of the season. 

Shea
finished with 13 catches and 175 yards in the loss. He added 83 yards on kickoff returns to finish with 258 all-purpose yards – his second game with over 200 all-purpose yards this season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC
:
Sophomore running back Madison Ross of Austin College had 17 carries for 60 yards and added four catches for 17 yards to lead the Austin College offense against Trinity on Saturday. Sophomore wide receiver Cody Sandman of Trinity led all receivers with five catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns – including a career-long 55-yard catch and run for a score in the third quarter. Texas Lutheran's contest against SAGU was cancelled due to lightning.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 28

VON'DARRICK JONES OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 5-9, 178-pound senior defensive back from Cypress, Texas has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 28.

Jones recorded an interception for the second straight week, leading the Tiger defense in a 26-3 victory over Austin College.

Jones picked off Austin College's first pass of the day on Saturday afternoon, which came on just the second play from scrimmage for the visitors.  That led to Trinity's opening touchdown, which proved to be all the defense would need in the end.

Jones and the Tigers held Austin to just three points in the game, which was the lowest total since a 10-3 win over Millsaps in 2011.  He finished with three solo tackles in Saturday's game, which also included his first career sack.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Austin College and Southwestern did not nominate anyone. Texas Lutheran's contest against SAGU was cancelled due to lightning.

 

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 28

JAKE PRICE OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a 5-9, 180-pound senior defensive back from Allen, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 28.

Price made four of his seven tackles on special teams coverage and recovered a fumble on a punt as the 'Roos took on Trinity on the road last Saturday.

Price also managed to force another fumble that went out of bounds on kick coverage. He also added a tackel for loss as well as a pass breakup on the defensive side of the ball.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman punter Francisco Ashford of Trinity punted the ball eight times for 317 total yards in the game, as well as piling up 167 yards on three kickoffs. The freshman kicker averaged 39.6 yards/punt and had a long punt of 42 yards in the game. Southwestern did not nominate anyone. Texas Lutheran's contest against SAGU was cancelled due to lightning.
