SCAC Announces 2014 Women's Track and Field Postseason Awards

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.
 – After exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), the league office today announced its 2014 Women's Outdoor Track & Field postseason awards.

Vanecia Spencer of Texas Lutheran University was selected as SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Year while Kelsey Oelze of Trinity University was voted SCAC Women's Field Athlete-of-the-Year. Katie McIntyre of the University of Dallas earned SCAC Women's Track & Field Newcomer-of-the-Year honors and the Texas Lutheran coaching staff, under head coach Darlene Holland, won the SCAC Women's Track & Field Staff of the Year.

Spencer, a senior from Grandview, Texas, did a little bit of everything for the Bulldogs in 2014. She earned SCAC Female Track & Field Athlete of the Meet honors at the 2014 SCAC Track & Field Championship after victories in the 400-meter dash (57.98) and the triple jump (36 feet, 5 inches), second-place finishes in the 100 (12.75) and the 200 (25.66) and a third-place finish in the high jump (4 feet, 9 3/4 inches). She also ran on the first-place 4x100 relay team and the second-place 4x400 relay team. Overall, she scored 28.5 to lead the Bulldogs to their fifth straight conference championship.

Oelze, a senior from Phoenix, Ariz., has been the leader of Trinity's field team in 2014. She tied for second place in the competition for SCAC Female Track & Field Athlete of the Meet, with 28 points to lead all field competitors. She repeated as javelin champion (36.31 meters), was runner-up in the shot put (11.63 meters), placed third in the discus (33.35 meters), and came in fourth in the hammer throw (31.93 meters). She led the Tigers to a second place finish at the Championship, only 26 points behind champion TLU. 

McIntyre has been the anchor of the Dallas Track & Field team all season. McIntype ended the season with all-conference honors in both the 400m with a 2nd place finish and the 4x400 relay with a 3rd place finish. She also added competed in the 200m with a 4th place finish as well anchoring our 4x100 to 4th place at the SCAC Championship. McIntyre set a new school record in the 400m this season as well as school records in the 4x100 and 4x400.

Finally, the SCAC Women's Track & Field Staff-of-the-Year honor went to the Texas Lutheran staff after yet another outstanding season. TLU won its fifth straight conference title and first title in the SCAC in the Bulldogs' inaugural season.
