Centenary's Quintanilla; Dallas' Cronin Named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Freshman outfielder Aaron Quintanilla of Centenary College and junior pitcher Martin Cronin of the University of Dallas has been named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week for their outstanding performance this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  April 7th – 13th

AARON QUINTANILLA OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a freshman outfielder from Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 7th through Sunday, April 13th.

Quintanilla moved Centenary into second place in the SCAC Standings this past weekend as they swept the Ausitn College 'Roos.

Quintanilla posted a team-best .500 batting average while tying for the team lead in hits with six and recording five RBI – second most on the team. 

Half of the freshman's hits went for extra bases including back-to-back triples in the 13-run inning for the Maroon and White in the second game of the series. Quintanilla tallied multiple hits in all three contests.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior infielder Mark Carlson Dallas led the Crusaders to a 2-1 weekend as he went 6-for-12 at the place with a double and two stolen bases. Sophomore infielder Marco Carreon of Schreiner hit 6-for-11 over a 1-2 weekend for the Mountaineers, including a four hit game Sunday that resulted in a 7-2 win. Sophomore designated hitter Drew Butler of Trinity led the team with a .455 batting average over the three games, going 5-11 with two runs and four RBI.  He had a double, triple, and home run among his five hits, totaling 11 bases for a slugging percentage of 1.000. Austin College, Southwestern, and Texas Lutheran did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  April 7th – 13th

MARTIN CRONIN OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a senior right handed pitcher from The Woodlands, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 7th through Sunday, April 13th.

Cronin put together a brilliant effort to lead Dallas to a game one win over Schreier University en rout to 2-1 series victory.

Cronin allowed only one hit in six innings of work (game ended in seven), striking out five in the process and only walking one. 

Cronin improved to 6-2 on the season with a 3.34 ERA (7th in the SCAC). His six wins are tied for second in the conference.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior pitcher Taylor Henry of Centenary claimed two of Centenary's three wins on the mound over the weekend. Henry logged 6.0 innings of work while fanning six and allowing just one earned run in the two appearances. Sophomore pitcher Matt Barnett of Schreiner allowed only two earned runs through 8.1 innings pitched, while giving up one walk and getting two strikeouts in a win over Dallas. Junior pitcher Trent Rape of Trinity came on in relief in the third inning of game one, finishing off a shutout victory in a matchup between the top two teams in the SCAC standings.  Rape tallied 7.0 innings of relief, striking out five batters, and yielding just two hits. Austin College, Southwestern, and Texas Lutheran did not nominate anyone.
