Trinity's Emodi Headlines Six SCAC AVCA All-America Selections

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Led by Trinity University junior outside hitter Maggie Emodi, six SCAC student-athletes were recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as All-Americans. AVCA Complete Release

Emodi was a First Team selection and first-year outside hitter Abbe Holtz of Colorado College was a Third Team selection.

Emodi, the 2013 SCAC Player-of-the-Year, played a huge role for the Tigers as a six-rotation outside and captain – leading Trinity to its first 30+ win season since 2009.

Emodi finished second in the SCAC in kills (468), third in kills per set (3.16), eighth in digs (561), and eighth in hitting percentage (.233). She has achieved 18 double-doubles (kills-digs) for the 2013 season, adding a season high of six blocks in a single match. Emodi was also named All-Tournament at Trinity's Fall Classic and SCAC Offensive Player of the Week twice (Week 8, Week 10).

An AVCA All-South Region and honorable mention All-America honoree as a freshman, Emodi's selection as SCAC Player-of-the-Year represents the 14th time a Trinity player has earned the league's highest honor and the first since 2006 when Sara Buros was honored.

Holtze is just the second player from Colorado College to receive All-America honors during her first collegiate season, joining four-time All-American Cathy Costello, who was a second-team selection in 1986.

The outside hitter from Manhattan Beach, Calif. previously was honored as Freshman of the Year as well as the top first-year player in the West Region by the AVCA. Holtze, the only freshman named to the West Region team, finished second in the SCAC averaging 3.25 kills per set. She also led the Tigers in points per set (3.73), was second in digs (2.89) and fourth among the starters with a .223 hitting percentage. Holtze led CC with 13 double-doubles (kills-digs).

Holtze recorded double-digit kills on 18 occasions, including a season high of 20 during a sweep of Willamette University on Sept. 7. She posted double-figure digs 15 times with a high of 20 against Lawrence University on Sept. 15.
During the regular season, Holtze was voted MVP of the Colorado College Classic by the opposing coaches and was an all-tournament selection at the CC Invitational and the ACM (Associated Colleges of the Midwest) Tournament.

Other SCAC student-athletes recognized as 2013 honorable mention All-Americans include Trinity University's Erin Cusenbary, a junior middle blocker, Colorado College's Courtney Birkett, a sophomore outside and right side hitter, Austin College's Shelby Eaves, a senior outside hitter, and Southwestern University's Chandler Lentz, a senior libero.
