LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior guard AJ Myres of Schreiner University has earned SCAC Player of the Week for his outstanding efforts on the court this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of January 6th – January 12th

AJ MYRES OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a senior guard from The Woodlands, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 6th through Sunday, January 12th.

Myres averaged 22.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals while leading Schreiner to a 2-0 record on the road. 

Myres scored 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting including 6-of-8 from the free throw line to lead the Mountaineers to a 73-59 win over Southwestern.

The following night against Trinity, Myres poured in another 22 point effort on 9-of-14 shooting including 18 points in the secon half to lead the Mountaineers to a 65-62 come from behind victory.

Down by one with 35 seconds remaining, Myres came out of no where and stripped a Trinity ballhandler and topped it off with a breakaway lay in to give the Schreiner the lead for good with 24 seconds remaining. He also hit two free throws to ice the game.

Myres, shot 17-of-25 from the field (68%) and hit clutch free throws down the stretch. The Mountaineers are on a five game winning streak and currently sit at 7-7 including a 3-0 start in conference play. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior forward Alvin Michael of Austin College averaged 7.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 3.0 blocks per game in a pair of games for Austin College last weekend while shooting 54.5% from the floor and getting a double-double against Colorado CollegeSenior guard Jonathan Blount of Centenary returns atop the list as the leading scorer for the SCAC averaging 21.9 points following a weekend in which he totaled 37 points. Junior forward Chris Lesnansky of Colorado Collegeaveraged 19.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while leading Colorado College to a pair of conference victories last week. Senior forward/center Ross Davidson of Dallas scored nine, 18, and 20 to lead the Crusaders to a 2-1 record this past week. Junior guard Blake Scott of Southwesternaveraged a team high 17 points per game over the weekend, shooting 52% form the floor (10-19) and averaged 4.5 rebounds per game. Freshman guard Jordan Kouremetis of Texas Lutheranprovided a large chunk of Texas Lutheran's offense over the weekend, coming off the bench and averaging 15 points per game in two road games. Junior guard Matt Selling of Trinity averaged 14.0 points/game and 2.5 rebounds/game for the weekend, hitting 11-18 (61.1%) from the field, and 6-11 (54.5%) from three-point range.
