SCAC Announces 2014 Baseball All-Tournament Team

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Trinity University Tigers and the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs combined to place nine players on the 2014 SCAC Baseball All-Tournament team, as selected by the participating head coaches. Complete Team

Entering the tournament as the number one seed, Trinity rattled off three wins over three days, including two wins over TLU, to win the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

The Tigers will make their ninth NCAA appearance in program history.

Texas Lutheran finished runner-up in the SCAC Tournament, but managed to score 34 runs in four games as the Bulldogs made it the SCAC title game in their first year in the conference.

Two Tigers teammate in the outfield were unanimous selections in senior Pat Hirschberg and sophomore Austin Singer. Hirschberg, the 2013 SCAC Player of the Year, hit .455 on the weekend including four RBIs and the game winning single to send Trinity into the championship game. Singer hit .429 on the weekend with a double and home run to drive five runs and score six times.

Other Trinity selections were junior pitchers Zack Speer and Nick Griffith who both did not allow a run to the hot hitting TLU offense. Speer, the 2014 SCAC Pitcher of the Year, earned a no decision, pitching seven complete innings while striking out seven in the semifinals. Griffith came in relief of the championship game and shut down the Bulldogs for 6.2 innings to earn the win.

Senior first baseman Derek Kanas of Texas Lutheran was a unanimous selection, hitting .353 with a double, two RBIs, and five runs scored. Other selections for the Bulldogs includes junior outfielder Tony Gennusa who hit .429 with a triple, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Junior shortstop Zach Jacobs hit his first collegiate career home run while driving in three and scoring a tournament high seven runs. Sophomore third baseman Keaton Bohrmann led the tournament with eight RBIs including a grand slam while senior catcher Danny Brauckman hit .300 at the plate and drove in two runs.

Freshman designated hitter Preston LeJeune of Centenary picked up a unanimous selection, hitting .429 from the dish with three RBIs while freshman second baseman Taylor Reed earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, hitting .417 with a double, three RBIs, and three runs scored.
