SHERMAN, Texas - Wes Tarbox has been named the new head baseball coach at Austin College, athletics director David Norman has announced. Tarbox, a graduate and former player for the 'Roos, has coached the Allen Wranglers collegiate prep summer club team for 14 seasons.

Tarbox, a 1990 graduate of Austin College, has compiled a record of 323-134-9, a winning percentage of .674, as the coach of the Wranglers. Last summer he guided his team to a championship in Division I of the Lone Star Amateur Baseball Association at the 18 and under level. He also coached his 16 and under team to the Lone Star ABA title in 2011, and in 2009 the Wranglers were ranked No. 1 in the nation by the United States Specialty Sports Association in their division.

"We are thrilled to welcome Wes back to Austin College," said Norman. "As an alumnus and standout player at Austin College, he has a unique understanding of our program and the College. Wes has enjoyed tremendous success coaching at a high level, and his leadership will be a great asset to our baseball program."

After graduating from Austin College, Tarbox became a partner in 'Roo Rentals and W J Property Management, and since 2007 has worked as a Youth Ministry Director at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Allen.

While at Austin College, Tarbox was a four-year starter while playing shortstop, third base, and center field for the 'Roo baseball team, serving as team captain twice and earning both All-Conference and Academic All-Conference accolades. He was also a member of the Dean's List while at Austin College.

Under Tarbox, the Allen Wranglers have never finished with a record below .500, and last season he coached 16 individuals who are now playing at the collegiate level, including six NCAA Division I, two NCAA Division II, and three NCAA Division III players. Over the years his teams have won several regional tournaments as well as the North Texas Mickey Mantle league multiple times. His 2009 club finished fifth in the nation at the American Amateur Youth Baseball Alliance tournament in St. Louis.
