KANSAS CITY, Kansas - As the new season draws near, the NSCAA and Continental Tire have released the 2013 College Preseason Rankings for all three levels of the NCAA, the NAIA and the two levels of Junior College.
The Trinity University men's soccer team, who went 19-1-4 a year ago and advanced to the NCAA Playoffs for the 11th consecutive season, check in at No. 8 in the country. The defending SCAC Champions picked up wins over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Mississippi College in the First and Second Rounds before falling to Montclair State in the Third Round in 2012.
The Tigers return a pair of NSCAA and D3soccer.com First Team All-Americans in senior midfielder Yuri Ribeiro and junior goalkeeper Matt Cardone. NSCAA All-Region and All-SCAC midfielder Darren McAfee and Tom Carwile also return for the Tigers in 2013.
Trinity is led by Head Coach Paul McGinlay, who will embark on his 23rd season with the Tigers this fall. McGinlay is among the all-time Division III leaders in victories and winning percentage including a conference leading .928 winning percentage.
The Colorado College men's soccer team, coming off a 14-5-3 record and a birth in the NCAA Playoffs for the first time since 2004, received votes for the Top 25. The Tigers picked up a win over Babson College in the First Round before falling to the University of Scranton in the Second Round a year ago.
The Tigers lose some key players including NSCAA All-American and SCAC Player of the Year Matt Flechter as well as SCAC Defensive Player of the Year Nick Lammers, but welcome back All-SCAC performers Ben Glass and Sean Parham.
Colorado College is led by last year's West Regional and SCAC Coach of the Year, Horst Richardson, who enters his 48th season with the Tigers. Richardson is the All-Time leader in overall wins in the SCAC with 538.
