LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity and Centenary remain on top of the SCAC as they each took two out of three from their SCAC opponents this past weekend. Texas Lutheran also remains in the mix after enjoying a bye week from confernece play. Meanwhile, Austin College has a big weekend, winning their first series of the year over Schreiner to move into contention for a top four spot.

Austin College had a big weekend, taking two
of three games against Schreiner to snap a nine-game losing streak
by sweeping the team’s doubleheader on Saturday. The
‘Roos fell just short in a comeback bid in game one, falling
5-4, before coming from behind to take a 7-5 victory in game one on
Saturday and exploding offensively in a 14-3 win in game two.
Marcos Molina had an outstanding weekend at the plate, batting .667
with two RBI and four runs scored, and added two stolen bases. Josh
Lewis and Thomas Oberg each picked up their first career victories,
with Oberg tossing two scoreless innings in relief in game one
while Lewis went the distance in game two on Saturday. Jeremy
Halford batted .400 and Dylan Day hit .333 with two RBI in the
series.
Centenary went 3-2 on the week including a series win over Southwestern over the weekend. The Gents split a twinbill at Jarvis Christian to open the week and took the first two outings of the series from the Pirates. Centenary used extra innings to capture the first win, 5-4, from SU marking the second, extra inning, win for the Maroon and White this season. The series clincher came in a 9-3 decision for the Gents. Aaron Quintanilla led the Gents at the plate going 7-for-15 with five RBI and four runs scored. He also logged five walks. Devin Bench made three appearances over the week for the squad including a save. Bench tossed three innings allowing just one run – unearned – while striking out three. Chase Clarke, Taylor Henry and Paul Arcement all logged wins on the bump for the week. Centenary returns to action on Tuesday, March 25 as they travel to LSU-Shreveport for a 6 p.m. first pitch before returning to SCAC play at Schreiner this weekend.
Dallas went 1-2 on the week in conference competition. On Saturday, in San Antonio, head coach Fraser Holmes’ squad fell 8-2 (F/7) to No. 1 Trinity, before navigating to a 9-8 (F/10) win. On Sunday, the Crusaders were edged 5-4 (F/9) by the Tigers. On Wednesday, in Fort Worth, Dallas faces Arlington Baptist College in a 6 p.m. first pitch at neutral-site LaGrave Field. The navy and white then host Austin College for a three-game series -- Saturday (1 p.m. DH; 1x7, 1x9) and Sunday (1 p.m.; 1x9).

Schreiner went 1-2 on the week, falling to to 12-15 (3-3 SCAC) on the season; Mountaineers were led by Sr. Center fielder Kelly Rundzieher who finished the weekend with six hits. The Mountaineers look to regroup with strong pitching for a big road series at Centenary Friday and Saturday in Shreveport, La. at 2pm.
Southwestern was able to snap a seven game losing streak in the series finale at Centenary over the weekend to improve to 5-20 on the season and 2-7 in SCAC action. The Pirates dropped a one-run game in the Friday opener as Southwestern is now 0-8 in one-run ballgames while 13 of the losses coming against teams either nationally ranked or receiving votes in the current D3Baseball.com Poll. Chase Allen and Charlie St. Clair both extended hitting streaks to seven games – tied for the longest of the year – as Allen hit .500 and St. Clair finished the weekend at a .467 clip with two RBIs. The Pirate bullpen stepped up including a win for Nino Tutino pitching a perfect inning of relief in the comeback against the Gents. Southwestern continues its tough stretch at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday before returning to SCAC play at home against perennial regional power and conference newcomer Texas Lutheran.
Texas Lutheran went 1-2 last week with a walk-off 3-2 road loss to Hardin-Simmons, a 16-0 road demolition of Texas Wesleyan, and a tight 3-1 road loss to Texas Wesleyan. Against HSU, the Bulldogs held a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth, but the TLU bullpen could not hold off the Cowboys, who scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth and the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. The HSU rally spoiled a career-best outing by sophomore right-hander Cody Moore, who tossed seven scoreless innings. Moore surrendered just four hits, walked one and struck-out three. The Bulldogs erupted for 16 runs and 15 hits in a 16-0 road rout Tuesday of former conference foe Texas Wesleyan. The game was called after seven innings due to the 10-run rule. TLU, a member of the NCAA Division III, took a 4-0 lead with a four-run fourth and then put up 12 runs in the fifth. At Fort Worth’s LaGrave Field, 17 Bulldogs went to the plate in the fifth. Tony Gennusa, Derek Kanas, Tyler Carollo and Von Wendel each reached base twice in the frame. Kanas, Carollo and Wendel each scored twice in the inning. A day after scoring 16 runs and recording 15 hits in a 16-0 win over Texas Wesleyan, TLU managed just one run and three hits Wednesday in a 3-1 non-conference road loss to the Rams. TLU received a first-inning solo home run from sophomore third baseman Keaton Bohrmann, but the Bulldogs collected just two more hits the rest of the game. Both hits came off the bat of senior catcher Danny Brauckman.
No. 1/2 Trinity went 3-1 over the past week, beginning with a 5-4 extra-inning win over #19 Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday. The Tigers then took two out of three games in a weekend SCAC series against Dallas, finishing with a 5-4 comeback win on Sunday afternoon. The teams split a Saturday doubleheader, with the Tigers winning 8-2 in the opener, then falling in a 9-8 extra-inning game that snapped Trinity’s 16-game win streak. Christian Muscarello moved to sixth in school history in career hits, reaching 224 in his career by the end of the weekend. He has also reached fourth in career games played as a Tiger, and third in career games started. He can break both records with 10 more starts this season. Trinity will now play 12 of its final 15 games on the road, and will not return home until a series against Texas Lutheran on April 12-13. This week, the Tigers face off against #20 Concordia (TX) University on Tuesday night, followed by a three-game road series at Hendrix over the weekend.
