SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Trinity Director of Athletics Bob King has announced that Steve Mohr has retired as the head coach of the Tiger football team, effective immediately.
Coach Mohr retires following his 24th season at the helm of the Tigers, and is by far the most successful coach in program history. He established new school records in both total wins (186) and winning percentage (.715) in his career. Coach Mohr was third among active NCAA Division III coaches in victories (186), and was also in the top 20 in winning percentage among active coaches in D-III.
"I'd like to thank Director of Athletics Bob King and the administration at Trinity for their amazing support throughout my career here," said Coach Mohr. "I'd also like to extend my deepest appreciation towards the players and coaches who laid the foundation for our success over the years. I'm looking forward towards my new position in serving both the University, as well as the football program."
During his career, Coach Mohr posted an impressive record of 186-74, and finished with a 92-29 record in conference play. He led Trinity to 16 SCAC Championships, and took the Tigers to the NCAA Playoffs on 12 different occasions. Trinity has made three trips to the NCAA Semifinals (1998, 1999, 2002) during his tenure.
In 2002, Coach Mohr led Trinity to its only appearance in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, as the Tigers finished as national runners-up to Mount Union. He has earned American Football Regional Coach of the Year honors five times in his career, and Coach Mohr also earned the National Coach of the Year award in 1998 (American Football Gazette and CBSsportsline.com) and 2002 (Football Gazette).
During the 2012 season, Coach Mohr was inducted into Denison's Varsity D Association Athletics Hall of Fame. He earned his bachelor's degree from Denison in 1976, earning varsity letters in baseball, basketball, football, and golf.
Coach Mohr will join the Tiger athletics administrative staff as the Assistant Athletic Director for Football Development, also effective immediately.
