LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - SCAC schools continued non-conference play against fellow SCAC schools this past weekend. No. 3 Trinity continued to roll, scoring a sweep over Centenary while Dallas and Texas Lutheran each took two out of three. This upcoming weekend, it all counts as SCAC play begins!
AROUND THE SCAC
Austin College went 1-2 over the weekend against Dallas Christian, falling 8-0 in game one before coming back from six runs down to win 8-7 on a walk-off single in game two. The 'Roos wrapped up the weekend with a tough loss to DCC, falling 4-2 after having held a 1-0 lead heading into the 8th inning. In the second game, Hunter Wilson delivered the pinch hit walk-off single in the 8-7 win, and Marcos Molina delivered a three run double to help the 'Roos storm back from being down 7-1. In the third game, Josh Lewis tossed seven strong innings before allowing three runs, only one earned, in the eighth as DCC staged its own comeback to top the 'Roos. Josh Coughennower and James Arguello each hit .400 for the weekend and Molina finished with four RBI and two stolen bases.
Centenary dropped all four contests this week including three at No. 3 Trinity over the weekend. Michael Schimpf paced the squad at the plate with a .357 batting average while Chris Jones also hit over .300 with a .333 clip. The duo combined for 10 of the Gents' 23 hits over the four-game span. The Gents used 11 arms this week on the mound with Trey Lavaspere totaling the most time on the bump wit 7.0 innings of work and struck out a team-best five batters. Six pitchers posted 0.00 ERA for the week, but all coming in limited action. Centenary returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 5 in a doubleheader against Texas College.
Dallas went 2-1 on the week at home, to claim a second-consecutive series. On Saturday, in Irving, Texas, head coach Fraser Holmes' squad won 5-2 (F/9) and then 4-1 (F/9) over Southwestern in non-conference competition. On Sunday, at Crusader Field, the navy and white fell 13-2 (F/7), amid freezing temperatures and a wintry mix. Dallas opens SCAC-play this week as they head to Seguin, Texas, to face Texas Lutheran in a three-game bout -- Saturday (12 p.m. doubleheader; 1x7, 1x9) and Sunday (1 p.m. 1x9).
Schreiner went 2-3 on the week with home victories over Pacific( and Texas Lutheran (5-4) and losses to Pacific and Texas Lutheran(1-5, 0-6). This week Schreiner will host DeSales (Tuesday, March 4th), Cardinal Stritch (Wednesday, March 5th) and will travel to Southwestern (Friday, March 7th/Saturday, March 8th) for their first SCAC series.
Southwestern avoided a weekend sweep at the University of Dallas with a 13-2 win in the finale on Sunday. A quartet of Pirates hit over .400 for the weekend led by Colten Shea (.556) and senior Zach Lynch (.455). Lynch was also perfect stealing three bases on three attempts. The Pirate pitching staff was also improved as Brett Marcom picked up his first win of the year going six strong innings allowing two runs and one earned. Southwestern struck out 11 over the weekend while only walking eight as Jeremy Rice, Carl Mueller and Joseph Koch combined to pitch eight innings with three runs although none were charged to the trio. Southwestern opens SCAC action this weekend hosting Schreiner at Rockwell Field on Friday and a double-header on Saturday. Cardinal Stritch will also head to Georgetown for a mid-week non-conference single game on Tuesday.

In the late-game Saturday win, Kellen McGriff tossed a seven-hit, complete-game shutout. He struck out six and did not walk a batter. Keaton Bohrmann went 4-for-4, and Tyler Carollo notched three hits. Tony Gennusa scored two runs and drove in a run.
