Three SCAC Schools Ranked in Golf World/Nike Golf Women's Golf Preseason Poll

NORMAN, Okla. - Three schools from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference were ranked in the 2013-14 Golf World/Nike Golf Women's Golf Preseason Poll. Southwestern University, Schreiner University and Trinity University all found their names on the early season polls as they prepare to open their fall season in the coming month.

The defending SCAC Champion Southwestern Pirates begin the 2013-14 season ranked No. 10 in the country after finishing seventh at the NCAA Championships a year ago. The Pirates lose their two top golfers from a year ago, but do welcome back the trio of sophomore Bernice Leonard, junior Lauren Boone, and sophomore Keeley Coburn who all participated at the NCAA Championships.

The Schreiner Mountaineers come into the SCAC in 2013-14 and enter the year ranked No. 16. The Mountaineers finished third at the American Southwest Conference Championship a year ago and will look to make a splash in the SCAC right away. Schreiner returns sophomore Amber Hernandez after she came off an impressive All-ASC season in her rookie year as well as three other returners from their top five.

Last year's runner up at the SCAC Championships, the Trinity Tigers, check in at No. 19. The Tigers were right behind Southwestern for the title, falling by four strokes. Individual champion Brigett Lee returns for her sophomore year as the Tigers welcome back four from their top five a year ago.

Defending champion Mary Hardin-Baylor takes the top spot, receiving 16 first place votes while Methodist was second with three first place votes. Washington University sat in third place. To see the complete poll, click here.
