Colorado College favored to win 2010 SCAC Volleyball Championship

SUWANEE, Ga. - For the first time since joining the league in 2007, Colorado College was selected as the preseason favorite to win the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball championship in 2010.

The Tigers were tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the SCAC title just ahead of Trinity University. In the annual preseason vote by the league's head coaches, Colorado College tallied seven of 12 first place votes and received 126 points to headline the poll.

Head coach Rick Swan and his Tigers finished 2009 with a 35-5 overall record and 12-2 mark in SCAC play and lost a 3-1 decision to Washington (Mo.) in the Division III national quarterfinals. Colorado College is ranked fifth in the 2010 AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 preseason poll.

Trinity University closely followed Colorado College and checked in at No. 2 in the preaseason poll for the second straight year. The Tigers garnered 120 points and three of 12 first place votes. Trinity, who is 12th in the 2010 AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 preseason poll, bowed out of the Division III national quarterfinals with a 3-0 loss to Juniata.

Defending SCAC champion, Southwestern University (111 points, two first place vote), was the only other team to receive first place votes and checked into the poll in third place. The Pirates are ranked 16th in the 2010 AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 preseason poll.

DePauw University and Austin College tallied 96 and 83 points to finish fourth and fifth respectively. Centre College rounds out the top six with 65 points.

Rounding out the 2010 predicted order of finish: Millsaps College was tabbed seventh with 56 points and Rhodes College was just behind in eighth place, picking up 55 points. Hendrix College followed with 35 points while Oglethorpe University (10th, 33 points) and Sewanee: University of the South (11th, 12 points) complete the poll.
