Trinity Women's Tennis Coach Ryan Takao Resigns

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Trinity University Tigers women’s head tennis coach Ryan Takao has resigned from his position. Takao recently completed his third year as head coach of the Tiger women's tennis team.

Under his leadership, Trinity players qualified for the NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Championships, and advanced to the National Small College Championships. The Tigers reached the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship match, and also won third place, on two occasions.

“Ryan has been a huge asset to our women’s tennis program for the past 15 years,” said Butch Newman, Trinity’s Director of Tennis, and the former men’s and women’s coach.  “He was my valuable assistant, and right by my side when we won the NCAA National Team Championship in 2000.  I wish him the very best in his next endeavor."

Prior to assuming the women’s head coach’s position in 2008, Coach Takao was an assistant with the program for 12 seasons. A 1996 graduate of Trinity, Coach Takao was a four-year letterman for the Tiger men’s team, and helped lead the squad to three straight SCAC Championships, and four appearances in the NCAA playoffs.

"We will miss Ryan and we wish him the best," said Trinity's Director of Athletics, Bob King.  "He will always remain a part of the Trinity Athletics family."
