INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Danika Wright, a senior defender on the Trinity University women's soccer team, was named a recipient of a $7,500 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

To qualify for the scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall grade-point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) and been a member of a varsity team. Recipients also must intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.

She became the 31st Tiger student-athlete to earn a Postgraduate Scholarship. Trinity is ranked in the top-10 for Postgraduate Scholarships among NCAA Division III schools.

Wright, a business administration/accounting major, will use the $7,500 award to pursue a master's in accounting at Brigham Young University.

Talented on the soccer field and in the classroom, Wright has made Trinity's Dean's List six times during her academic career. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and has been selected for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Honor Roll.

She was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III Scholar All-American following the 2010 season. Wright also was elected to the NSCAA All-Region Team, and the All-SCAC First Team.

Wright played a key role in Trinity's taut defense in 2010, which yielded only 11 goals (.55 per game). She contributed to the offense by scoring five goals (two game-winners), and chalking up two assists.

In 2009, Wright was selected for the NSCAA All-America First Team. She was also named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Trinity, led by seventh-year head Coach Lance Key, completed the 2010 campaign with an 18-2-0 overall record, and was 10-0-0 in the SCAC. The Tigers captured their fifth SCAC Championship under Coach Key's leadership, and 15th overall. Coach Key was honored by his peers as the SCAC Coach of the Year for the second straight time, and the fourth overall.

Coach Key guided the Tigers to their sixth NCAA postseason appearance in seven years, and 16th overall, as Trinity advanced to the second round.

The one-time, non-renewable grants are awarded annually to students who excel academically and athletically, and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. Only 29 scholarships are awarded for both men and women from each sports season (fall, winter and spring).

Candidates for the Postgraduate Scholarship are nominated by the school's faculty athletics representative and screened by regional selection committees. Recipients then are selected by the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee.
