Birmingham-Southern's Leachman Selected In Major League Baseball Draft

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham-Southern College senior outfielder Drew Leachman became the latest Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) student-athlete selected in the Major League Baseball Draft when he was drafted by the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.

Leachman was drafted in the 37th round as the 1,138th overall selection. He capped off a stellar senior season in which he was an All-SCAC first-team honoree and the 2011 SCAC Player of the Year. He hit .451 with four home runs and 44 RBI's to go along with 60 runs scored.

He helped guide Birmingham-Southern to a second consecutive 30-win season as the Panthers finished the season 30-9 overall.

In 155 career games (153 of them starts), Leachman hit .412 with 13 home runs, 157 RBI's, 211 runs, 252 hits, 56 doubles and 10 triples. He also tallied a .601 career slugging percentage.

Leachman becomes the SCAC's 10th MLB draft pick since 1987 and the first SCAC student-athlete drafted since Trinity University's Evan Bronson (29th round - Washington) and Oglethorpe University's Daniel Sarisky (40th round - Houston) were chosen in the 2009 draft.
