Austin College dominated
Dallas Christian College 6-0 in their lone match of the week to
improve to 3-2-1 on the year behind a staggering five goal
performance from Sam Temple. Temple played less than half of the
game and scored seemingly each time he touched the ball, netting a
hat trick in the first half and punching home two penalty kicks in
a two minute span midway through the second half. Chris Melton also
tallied for the ’Roos and Andy Johnson and Chris Stein each
had assists. Grant Gosselin made four saves in the net as the
’Roos got their first shutout of the season.

losing to Maryville College at home, 2-0, Sunday afternoon. Both of
MC’s goals came in the second half of the game. Juniors Tony

goals against average. BSC opens conference play on the road this
weekend, traveling to face Austin College and Colorado College.
Centre continued its winning streak with victories
against The College of Mount Saint Joseph’s on Friday and
Wilmington College on Saturday. On Friday night, Centre needed just
thirty seconds to get on the scoreboard en route to defeating The
College of Mount Saint Joseph’s 3-1. Playing less than 24
hours later, Centre grinded out an impressive away win, defeating
Wilmington College 1-0 on Saturday. The Colonels improve to 5-1 on
the year with their fifth straight win. They’ll travel away
to Thomas More on Wednesday before opening SCAC play on Friday and
Sunday at home, with games against Sewanee and Oglethorpe.
Colorado College dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 3
Carnegie Mellon on Friday afternoon in the Tigers’ only game
last week. The Tartans, who are coached by CC Hall of Famer Arron
Lujan, scored in the sixth minute and then struck twice in a span
of 44 seconds to take control of the game with just over 15 minutes
remaining in the first half. But from that point on, Colorado
College had the majority of the scoring chances. Brandon Ogilvie
finally put the Tigers on the board when he ran down a lead pass
from Matt Fechter and put a shot from the penalty kick mark past
Zach Stall inside the right post. That tally stopped CC’s
scoring draught at 168.40. Fechter nearly cut the Tigers’
deficit in half in the 72nd minute when his shot from 15 yards went
on the outside of the right post. Carnegie Mellon finished with a
10-9 edge in total shots. Andy McGhie finished with five saves for
CC, but his scoreless streak ended at 336.38. His best save
occurred in the 88th minute when he stopped Brad Edelman on a
breakaway from eight yards out. Colorado College returns to action
on Monday against Wheaton College, and then begins conference play
this Friday and Sunday with games against Millsaps and
Birmingham-Southern, respectively.
#10 DePauw is 6-1 on the season after posting a
2-1 record last week. The Tigers defeated Wabash by a 1-0 count on
Wednesday before suffering its first loss and allowing its first
goal in a 1-0 overtime decision to 21st-ranked Ohio Wesleyan on
Friday. They then wrapped up the week with a 2-1 win over Millikin
on Sunday. Ryan Keefe scored the only goal in the Wabash win and
delivered the game-winning penalty kick in the second half of the
Millikin win. Dean Weaver also added a goal in that contest. Keefe
leads the Tigers with six of its 112 goals this year, while Nate
Sprenkel has a 0.28 goals against average as the Tigers have
allowed just two goals this year.
Hendrix dominated possession and outshot
University of Dallas, 21-6, to earn a 2-1 victory on Sunday
afternoon at Warrior Field. Hendrix avenged its 1-0 defeat at
Dallas from a year ago and improves to 3-1 on the year.
Junior midfielder Taylor Davenport scored the opening goal, his
second career score, on a low cross from 35 yards off the left side
of the net in the eighth minute of action. Sophomore forward
Connor Silvestri was credited with his first assist of the season
on the goal. Hendrix outshot Dallas 13-3 and would take its
1-0 lead into the break. Junior forward Duncan Keegan netted
his second goal of the season in the 53rd minute off a double
assist from Davenport and junior midfielder Colin Thompson.
Keegan headed the ball in off a cross from 10 yards out.
Dallas scored with just 20 seconds left in regulation on a
rebounded shot off a free kick from the right corner. Senior
forward Ryan Meske recorded his fourth goal of the season on a pass
from junior defender Derek Yoder. Hendrix junior keeper Adam
Legg made three saves in the win and Dallas first year goalie Sam
Carter denied nine shots.
Millsaps did not play this week. The Majors will
return to action Tuesday night to take on cross-town rival Belhaven
University for a 5:00 p.m. match.
Oglethorpe remained unbeaten by topping two
nonconference foes last week, Piedmont and Huntingdon. The Petrels
dominated the attack all evening against Piedmont but still only
led 1-0 at halftime on a 32nd minute goal by Ellis Curry, the first
of his career. Curry was set up supremely by a deft assist from
Mark Lavery. Oglethorpe finally established some separation in the
second half when they posted two goals within two minutes of each
other to extend the lead to 3-0. The first strike came on an
outstanding individual effort from Ben Robertson who beat two Lion
defenders with some nifty dribbling before powering a shot past
Piedmont's keeper. Moments later, in the game's 74th minute,
Robertson fed EJ Ovie-Ogodo who found the back of the net from
inside the box for his first tally of the season. On Saturday, the
Petrels topped Huntingdon by the score of 3-0. Ovie-Ogodo found the
back of the net again as did Jeff Arsenault and Nick Williamson.
Oglethorpe is now 4-0-1 on the season before kicking off conference
play this Friday at DePauw.
Rhodes battled to two draws this past weekend. On
Friday night, Rhodes faced cross-town Division II rival, Christian
Brothers University. In a game that was back and forth, Rhodes
College went on the board first, as sophomore, Petar Radujkovich,
put away a penalty kick in the 31st minute. Despite
tremendous defense by Rhodes, anchored by senior captain, Austin
Pyhrr, CBU would equalize in the 74th minute with a penalty kick of
their own. Each team would have shots cleared off the line in
the final 2 minutes of regulation, only to have the game go into
overtime. Senior goalie, Justin Stradley, came up with several key
saves during the match, confirming the 1-1 draw. The Lynx would
quickly turn around to play NAIA foe, Williams Baptist College, the
very next day. Williams Baptist would jump to an early 2-0
lead, scoring in the 4th and 25th minute. Rhodes would turn
things around in the 2nd half. Sophomore midfielder, Petar
Radujkovich, would net his 2nd penalty kick in as many contests,
and sophomore defender, Will Cooner would find the equalizer in the
67th minute with an assist from junior, Christian Kurth.
Rhodes would have several opportunities to get the go-ahead goal,
however couldn’t find the back of the net. Rhodes moves
to 3-1-3 after the weekend.
Sewanee held Roanoke College scoreless for 84
minutes on Sunday, but two late goals by the Maroons were enough to
earn Roanoke a 2-0 victory over the Tigers. Sewanee dropped to 2-4
on the season. The Tigers were able to hang with the Maroons
through the entire first half as they battled to a scoreless tie
for nearly the entire contest. Despite being outshot 16-6,
Sewanee's defense was able to keep Roanoke at bay until the 85th
minute of play. Roanoke's Drew Claytor finally broke the silence
with a goal off a free kick that proved to be the game-winner. AJ
Tierce added a Maroon insurance goal with less than one minute
remaining when he slipped a shot just under the reach of Sewanee
keeper Derek Williams. Sewanee managed only two shots on goal on
the day and were led by Garrett Schlosser and Thomas Moore, who
tallied two shots apiece. Williams finished the day with five saves
for the Tigers. Sewanee will return to action on Friday when they
travel to Centre College and open up SCAC play.
Southwestern was off this week after opening with
a flurry of games. They return to action this weekend as they start
SCAC Conference action at Rhodes on Friday and Hendrix on
Sunday.
No. 14 Trinity team played just once this past
week, but made the most of it in an 8-2 win over Texas Lutheran
University on Thursday night. The eight goals were the most scored
by the Tigers at home since a 9-1 win in 2005.Trinity scored four
times in each half, and junior All-American Zach Garcia scored
three goals to lead the Tigers to victory. It marked
Trinity’s first hat trick in nearly two years. Trinity will
open up SCAC play this weekend at Hendrix and Rhodes, before
returning home for a six-game home stand. Last season, the
Tigers beat Rhodes 2-1 in San Antonio, then finished off the
regular season with a 2-0 win over Hendrix. In 2008, Trinity
won 5-1 at Rhodes and 4-0 at Hendrix. The last time either
team defeated the Tigers was 2001, when Rhodes won a 2-1 decision
at Trinity.
