Millsaps shut down Huntingdon College 3-0 on Wednesday
night in the Majors only game of the week. The Majors took an early
lead in the first half in just the seventh minute of the game.
Senior midfielder Emily Townsend beat a Huntingdon defender in the
corner to take the ball down the end line crossing the ball to the
foot of freshmen midfielder Kaleigh Redhead. Redhead volleyed the
ball past the keeper and into the corner of the net opening the
score up 1-0. Just eight minutes later, the Majors struck again.
This time it was Townsend with the goal off a corner kick from
Redhead. Redhead’s kick rebounded off the head of a
Huntingdon defender towards Townsend who hit a high volley over the
head of the goalie. Redhead had another crucial corner in the 35th
minute that was back heeled into the goal by senior forward Hayley
Nemeth. Millsaps will take to the road this weekend for a pair of
SCAC matches with Trinity on Friday and Southwestern on
Sunday.
Oglethorpe went 1-1 on the week, topping Atlanta Christian
(2-0) and falling at Sewanee (5-1). On Tuesday afternoon against
the Crusaders Oglethorpe won 2-0 in a final score that did not
reflect the Petrels' domination of the contest. The Petrels held
possession of the ball throughout 95% of the game as the Crusaders
packed 9 players and their keeper in the box attempting to keep
Oglethorpe off the board. While the tactic worked to some degree,
Oglethorpe got goals from Haley Lister (39th minute, beat defender
with dribble and scored from close range at a difficult angle) and
Eliza Newland (66th minute, chipped rebounded shot off keeper into
the back of the net) to earn the win. The Petrels outshot the
Crusaders 37-2 and held a 14-0 advantage in shots on goal.
Additionally, Oglethorpe won 15 corner kicks in the contest without
allowing one themselves. On Saturday against Sewanee, the Tigers
broke out on top in the first half and coasted to the conference
victory. The Petrels tallied their lone goal on a strike from Clara
St. Urbain that was assisted by Cassie Della Fortuna. Oglethorpe is
now 7-4-1 on the season and will face Emory on their campus in
Decatur this Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.

back and forth game until Rhodes’ forward, Laura Flink,
finished a ball inside the 18 in the 66th minute to give the Lynx
the 1-0 advantage. Junior goalkeeper, Stephanie Sermonet,
would come up with 2 brilliant saves to preserve the 1-0 victory
for Rhodes. The Lynx traveled to Centre College on Sunday
afternoon. Rhodes had the better of play in the first half,
outshooting Centre 7-3; however, Centre would turn the momentum in
their favor in the 2nd half, scoring in the 60th minute. The
Lynx regained composure, as freshman, Heidi Press, tucked the ball
away in the 74th minute to knot the score at 1-1. Centre was
able to rebound, scoring with 10 minutes left in the game,
recording the 2-1 win.

conference play. Sewanee dominated for the entire game, taking 21
shots to the Stormy Petrels seven. Slay found the net at the 32:07
mark when Faith Spencer set her up just in front of the Oglethorpe
net. Slay was able to convert, putting her shot past Oglethorpe
goalkeeper Sarah Nania and making it 1-0 in favor of the Tigers.
Freshman Ellie Quinn took a pass from Jessica Keefe put it in the
net with just nine minutes left in the half. Quinn’s goal put
the Tigers up 2-0 heading into the half. The second half belonged
to the Tigers. Bess Goodman scored her fifth goal of the week when
she put one between the posts and into the net at the 34:54 mark.
Spencer picked up her second assist of the day with Goodman’s
goal, as Sewanee pushed ahead 3-0. Oglethorpe picked up their only
goal of the day just six minutes after Goodman’s score when
Stormy Petrel Clara St. Urbain picked up one for the visitors. With
twelve minutes left in the contest, senior Kate Willingham and a
host of Sewanee players crowded the Oglethorpe net. As several
Tigers lunged at the ball, Willingham’s header connected,
making it 4-1 in favor of the hosts. With just seven minutes left
in the match, Sewanee earned a penalty kick. Junior Lizzie Butler
took the shot and converted, sending a beautiful strike past Nania
for the score. Butler’s penalty kick made it 5-1 Sewanee.
Sewanee will return to action on Friday, when they travel to
Lookout Mountain, Georgia to take on Covenant College in a 5:00
p.m. match up.
Southwestern went 1-2 in action this weekend to move to
5-5-1 overall and 1-3 in the SCAC. On Tuesday the Pirates traveled
to nationally-ranked HSU and played well after the first 15 minutes
of action when the Cowgirls piled it on. Southwestern ultimately
fell 3-1. Friday SU faced off against Austin College and
