SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2011 SCAC Women's Tennis All-Tournament team this afternoon. Any players or doubles teams that went through the conference tournament undefeated (minimum 2-0) was named to the team.
The 17th-ranked DePauw University Tigers captured their fourth
straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title after a 7-2
win over 19th-ranked Sewanee in the SCAC title match, which was
played April 24 at the Burns Park Tennis Center. DePauw improved to
13-7 with the win, while Sewanee dropped to 18-6.
DePauw swept the doubles competition before taking four of six
singles matches, all four of which were in straight sets. The match
marked the seventh straight year the Tigers appeared in the
championship match.
With the championship, DePauw earned automatic qualification into
the NCAA Division III Championships which begin on Friday, May
13.
DePauw had players at three different singles slots and all three
doubles slots make the all-tournament team, highlighted by Janelle
Arita at #1 singles. Arita earned all-tournament honors either in
singles or doubles flights each of the past four years. Arita,
along with teammates Elizabeth Young (#5 singles) and Katie Regan
(#6 singles) posted undefeated records at the 2011 SCAC
Championship tournament.
There were no repeat selections from last year on the
all-tournament singles team. However, DePauw’s Arita and
Kelly Gebert were repeat selections in the doubles flight. The pair
earned all-tournament honors at #1 doubles a year after earning the
same honor at #2 doubles.
