DANVILLE, Ky.
- After 10 years with the program, Tom Hobbs announced his resignation as the head coach of the Centre College field hockey program on Monday.

"It is with mixed emotions that I formally announce my resignation from my position as head coach of the Centre College field hockey program. After 10 years with the program it is time for a new challenge and a new chapter in my life. I will be joining Merrill Lynch and embarking on a new career in the financial services industry," said Hobbs.

Hobbs went on to say, "for 10 years I have committed my time and efforts to ensure the long legacy of Centre field hockey continues. In that time we have reached new heights, developed new traditions, and shared our values of Family, Integrity, and Accountability with each and every player in the program. This season, my last, is the 51st season of intercollegiate field hockey at Centre - which began under vision and guidance of Mrs. Kitty Rogers Baird in the fall of 1960. While we fell short of goal of our second SCAC Championship, our program is as strong as ever and poised for continued success in the short-term and long-term future. To the student-athletes remaining with the program, I offer both my heartfelt thanks and sincerest best wishes as your forge ahead into a new era of Centre Field Hockey. Many successes remain for you both on the field and off and it's been my pleasure and honor to play my part in your lives thus far."

Hobbs served as the field hockey coach from 2003-2005 and from 2007-2010. He compiled an overall record of 61-46 and an SCAC record of 22-16 while at Centre. During the 2007 season the Colonels made it to their first ever NCAA Tournament under the leadership of Hobbs. Centre took on Lynchburg College in the first round.

Hobbs commented further on the future of the program: "For those looking at Centre for their undergraduate education, you will not find a warmer, more supportive, more collaborative, better positioned College anywhere in the country. Centre's national recognitions persist, our leadership is superlative, and the young ladies in our program hold the values, maturity, and perspective with which you should want to be associated. Our program's culture is defined by our commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the pitch, but most especially our commitment to the values of Family (being there for one another through good times and bad), Integrity (doing the right thing even when no one is looking), and Accountability (taking responsibility for those actions which reflect upon us as individuals, our families, our program, and our College)," said Hobbs.

"It is because of these commitments, our many shared experiences, and our investments in one another these past 10 years that I will always look back fondly upon my time as head coach of the Centre College Field Hockey program.  I thank each player, parent, colleague, and supporter I've grown with these past 10 years. God bless you all and I hope to see you again soon," Hobbs finished.
