DePauw Finishes Fifth, Centre Seventh; Colonels' Bachert Finishes Second at NCAA Women's Golf Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - DePauw University finished in fifth place and Centre College finished in seventh place at the 2011 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. The final round was delayed and then finally canceled due to weather.

The top-seeded Tigers finished with a three-round 997, while Methodist won its 12th straight Division III title with a 966. Gustavus Adolphus was runner up at 978 followed by Illinois Wesleyan at 991 and St. Mary's (Ind.) with a 992.

DePauw's Taylor Beaty and Paige Gooch each tied for 14th at 247, while Camila Romero tied for 26th at 251. Kelly Gaughan finished in a tie for 37th at 255 and Natalie Gough was tied for 41st with a 256.

The Tigers made their 10th appearance overall at the Division III Championships and 10th straight after finishing sixth last year. In its nine previous appearances, DePauw has placed second in 2007 and 2008 and third from 2003 through 2006. They also were fourth in 2002.

DePauw's 10 appearances rank third in the 12-year history of the event behind Methodist's 12 and Wisconsin-Eau Claire's 11. The Tigers' seven top-four finishes are second only to Methodist's 12.

Centre completed the event with a team score of 1004. Centre opened up with a 340, and followed with a 332 on Wednesday, as well as on Thursday. Methodist University won the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship with a score of 966. Gustavus Adolphus finished in second place with a 978 and Illinois Wesleyan was third with a 991.

Last season the Colonels had a 10th place showing at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship, which was also played at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fl. at the Mission Inn Resort.

Bachert completed the three rounds with a score of 235, improving each day. She opened the event with an 80 and would go on to shoot a 79 on Wednesday and a 76 on Thursday.

During the final round of play Bachert had tied Paige Caldwell from Methodist University for first place before the severe weather cancelled the round.

Bachert was named to the National Golf coaches Association Division III All-American First Team and to the NGCA All-Great Lakes Region Team earlier this week. Sophomore Whitney Miller tied for 31st place with a 253.
