SUWANEE, Ga. - Colorado College defeated Millsaps 21-1 over the weekend behind five goals from Ellie Cole. The CC Tigers are a perfect 4-0 on the year and the lone undefeated team remaining in the SCAC. Colorado College will look to remain perfect with a pair of conference road tilts against Sewanee and Birmingham-Southern.

Birmingham-Southern split this week in Dallas with a 20-6 loss to Nazareth College and a 13-6 win over the University of Dallas. Junior Chelsea Van Voorhis led BSC with three goals against Nazareth and six against Dallas. Junior goalkeeper Katie Bates had four saves against Nazareth and nine against Dallas. The Panthers return home this week, taking on Colorado College, Wednesday, to open conference play, and then facing Washington & Jefferson College on Friday.
Centre hosted Indiana Tech. on Friday, March
18. The Colonels suffered their first loss of the season falling
17-16 in overtime to the Warriors. During the opening minutes of
the second half the Colonels built up a five point lead, but
Indiana Tech scored the final goal of regulation at the 2:43 mark
to send the game into overtime. Centre outshot the Warriors 38-24,
while also holding the 17-13 advantage in ground-balls. Both teams
were successful on each of their clears, as Centre went 6-6 and
Indiana Tech went 7-7. Centre would recover from their loss on
Sunday, March 20 when they were able to beat Concordia University
(Wis.) 18-3 at home to improve to 7-1 on the season. The Colonels
remained at 1-0 in the SCAC. During their game against Concordia
the Colonels had 33 shots compared to the Falcons nine. Centre also
grabbed 15 ground-balls, while Concordia recovered 13. The Colonels
also went 2-3 on clears, while the Falcons were 0-1.
Fourteen different Tigers recorded at least one point as
Colorado College defeated Millsaps College, 21-1,
in CC’s first-ever conference game at Stewart Field. Leslie
Jacoby recorded a goal and an assist as the Tigers struck four
times in a span 1:36 early in the first half. Anna Crosby found the
net 4:04 into the contest to pick up her second game-winning goal
of the year with the first of her two markers. Colorado College was
able to substitute freely, and its reserves took advantage of the
opportunity by posting 13 goals and six assists. Sophomore attacker
Ellie Cole came off the bench to score five goals, while freshman
attacker Madeline Sherer struck for three more. Kate Krieger and
Frances Staadt each had two goals and an assist, while Lara Atkins
found the net once and set up two other scores. Eleven players
scored at least one goal, while nine had an assist. Sophomore Katy
Stetson stopped both shots she faced while playing the final 53:29
between the pipes. CC scored on half of its 42 shots, 35 of which
were on goal. Freshman midfielder Grace Gahagan led the defensive
effort with four draw controls and three caused turnovers. Cole
recorded a team-high four ground balls and caused three turnovers.
The 21 goals were the most Colorado College scored in a game since
March 6, 2009, in a 22-14 victory at the University of Redlands.
The last time the Tigers held an opponent to one goal was during a
14-1 victory at Fort Lewis College on April 5, 2009. CC plays its
next five games on the road, starting with this week's games at
Birmingham-Southern, Sewanee and and a non-conference matchup with
Denison University.
Millsaps went 0-3 this week at Colorado College. Tuesday's
game with Mesa State finished 19-1, the Tigers got the 21-1 win on
Wednesday, and Fort Lewis College won 23-2 on Thursday. Haleigh
Williams scored the Majors' goal against Mesa State and had another
against Fort Lewis. Jamie Blair Page had the other two goals
including the solo against Colorado College and the second goal
against Fort Lewis. Millsaps will take on Washington &
Jefferson College on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Birmingham.
Sewanee traveled to Dallas, Texas this week for a
trio of non-conference games. The Tigers picked up one win during
the trip, a 22-7 win over the University of Dallas, but dropped a
16-13 decision to Pomona-Pitzer and a 16-4 decision to Nazareth.
Against Dallas, 11 different Tigers found the scoring column, with
six of them scoring multiple goals. Page Carpenter led the
offensive barrage with five goals and one assist, while Meg Welton
added four goals. Megan Velie, Allison Bland, Chelsea Staunton, and
Caitlin-Jean Juricic each added two goals apiece. The Tigers are
now 3-4 on the season and have a busy week ahead, playing three
games in five days. Sewanee will open up conference play on
Wednesday when they host Centre College, followed by a Thursday
match up with Colorado College. They will end the week with a
non-conference clash with Denison on Saturday.
