GREENSBORO, N.C.
- Centre College senior Chris Morris moved atop of the leader board following the second round of play on Wednesday, May 11 at the 2011 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships in Greensboro, N.C. Official website

In team play, Oglethorpe University, co-leaders after round one, slid back to seventh place on day two after posting a team total of 304 (+16). Playing the more demanding East Course, the Petrels surrendered six double bogeys and a triple while only managing to post eight birdies on a difficult day. The Centre men’s team remains in 10th place with a score of 597 following the second round of play on Wednesday.

The tournament is being played at the Grandover Resort and runs through Friday, May 13.

Centre's Morris (pictured above right), who shot a 65 during the second round of action, has a two day score of 132. During the opening round he posted a 67.

Among other Centre golfers, senior Lyndon Jones is tied for 91st place with a two day total of 153 after recording a 79 on Wednesday. Sophomore Grant Hinton has a score of 155 and is tied for 108th after shooting a 78 on the second day of play. Tied for 135th is sophomore Patrick Davidson who completed the second round with an 80. Sophomore Kenyon Cook rounds out the top five for the Colonels with a score of 160, which puts him tied for 152. He posted a 79 during the round of play on Wednesday.

“Although as a team we are a little disappointed in our performance today, we are thrilled with making the cut and getting to continue competing for a national championship,” stated Centre assistant coach Tom Campbell.

“Chris Morris was fantastic today with his seven under 65 and is in the driver’s seat to win the individual championship.”

For Oglethorpe, the second round began inauspiciously with Jordan Hall carding a double bogey on hole No. 1 and the Petrels had to battle all morning and early afternoon long to stay in contention. Hall covered up the opening double with a hole-in eagle on the par-5 6th that propelled him to a solid 74 (+2), nearly the best round of the day for OU. At +6 for the Championships, Hall stands in a tie for 65th place overall.

Freshmen Anthony Amodeo and Patrick Cansfield both endured rough days, Amodeo on the front nine and Cansfield on the back. Amodeo played holes 4 through 9 in a cumulative 8-over par that included both a double and triple bogey. He rallied on the back side but the damage was done as he posted an 83 (+11) and slid all the way into a tie for 91st after an opening round 70. Cansfield managed the front nine with a respectable 39 but wound up carding an 80 (+8) after a last nine that was marred with a stretch of bogey-bogey-double bogey on holes 11, 12 and 13. At +13 overall, Cansfield is in a tie for 124th.

Senior Craig Stevenson began the round atop the leaderboard but suffered a bobble on day two with a card that featured two bogeys, two doubles and just one birdie. Despite the 77 (+5), Stevenson remains one of only 13 players under par at the Championships at -1 in a tie for 12th.

Sophomore Eric Quinn had the steadiest performance of the afternoon en route to posting a 73 (+1). He finished the day with a flourish by knocking in birdie putts on both 17 and 18 and, at +3 overall, stands in a tie for 34th.

The Petrels will need more of that birdie mojo tomorrow as the head into the third round 13 strokes behind tournament leader St. John's (Minn.) who sits atop the leaderboard with a score of 577. Greensboro College is second with a 580 and Texas Lutheran University is third with a 584.
