GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern University head men's and women's swimming coach Dan Carrington has announced his resignation after two years as the head coach of the Pirate program.

"I am thankful that Southwestern University gave me the opportunity to coach their teams and wish them all future success," states Carrington. "Family is of the utmost importance to us and for that reason we've decided to move close to family."

"I am sure that this was a tough decision for Coach Carrington and his wife but one made for the right reasons," states Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Glada Munt.  "We know that they will enjoy being closer to their respective families back in Indiana.  We are appreciative of all positive strides made by our men's and women's programs under his tenure and wish him much success in his next coaching endeavor."

Carrington coached the men's and women's teams to their best seasons to date including the first women's NCAA automatic qualifier, Sarah Ayers. Ayers finished in seventh place in the 100 backstroke at the NCAA Swim and Dive Championships after winning the event at the SCAC Championships. Her finish is the highest of any Pirate swimmer in the history of the program and earned Southwestern's first All-American swimmer with the performance.

Additionally, Carrington coached the women's team to six new SU school records this season while the men broke three school records.

Southwestern will immediately begin a national search for a head men's and women's swimming and diving coach.
