Rhodes to Square off Against DePauw in the SCAC Field Hockey Championship

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - In a rematch from the 2009 Championship, #1 seeded Rhodes will face #2 seeded DePauw for the 2010 SCAC Field Hockey Championship Sunday at 11 AM from McKeen Field. Rhodes will look to repeat while DePauw is looking their second title in the last four years.

Game One

Top-seeded Rhodes College advanced to the finals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Saturday with a 2-0 victory over fifth-seeded Hendrix in the semifinal round. BOX SCORE

The Lynx improved to 16-1 with the win and advanced to the conference finals for the second straight year. Rhodes will face the winner of the semifinal contest between third-seeded Centre and No. 2 seed DePauw. Meanwhile, Hendrix wrapped up its 2010 campaign at 6-10. 

Taylor Mills gave Rhodes a 1-0 lead at 19:05 in the first half on an unassisted goal. The Lynx extended that lead in the second half, as Sarah Kennedy scored on an assist from Lindsey Gurkovich. 

Rhodes held a 15-7 advantage in shots, putting 12 shots on goal during the contest. Hendrix tallied nine corners, while the Lynx had eight. 

After the game SCAC Director of Communications Russell Kramer caught up with both head coaches along with Rhodesjunior Taylor Mills who notched the game winning goal.

Game Two

Courtney Wood scored in the second overtime period to lift second-seeded DePauw to a 1-0 semifinal victory over third-seeded Centre Saturday afternoon in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Hockey Championship. BOX SCORE

DePauw improved to 13-6 with the victory while Centre finished the season with a final record of 11-5. 

A defensive struggle resulted in a 0-0 score by the end of regulation. Neither team scored in the first overtime period and it was Wood’s score off a rebound that ended the game midway through the second overtime. 

DePauw held a 20-4 edge in shots and put 11 shots on goal during the contest. DePauw also tallied 16 corners, while Centre had five.

Liz Attewell had three saves for DePauw, while Patty Cowley totaled 10 for the Colonels.

After the match Kramer caught up with both head coaches along with DePauw junior Courtney Wood who netted the game winning goal.
