KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference had three student-athletes earn all-America honors after the first day of competition at the 2011 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the Jones Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
Highlighting the all-America performances were the Trinty University diving duo of senior Haley Emerick and sophomore Ruth Hahn. Both were named all-America after Emerick placed second in the women's 3-meter with a score of 458.20 and Hahn placed third posting a score of 445.20.
Centre College junior Colleen Maggard earned Honorable Mention all-America honors in the women's 50 free. Maggard posted a 16th place finish with a time of 23.98.
Other highlights of the first day of competition included the performance of the DePauw University men's 200-yard medley relay team of John Montgomery, Matt Kukurugya, Josh Baugh and Joe Hessburg. The foursome barely missed the consolation final, finishing in a time of 1:34.01 and in 17th place after entering with the 22nd fastest time.
Centre's Clark Weber, SCAC Swimmer and Freshman of the Meet at conference, just missed the comcolation final in the women's 500-yard free after swimming a school record and personal best 5:00.57 - good enough for 18th place.
DePauw junior Catie Baker finished 23rd in the women's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.84.
Junior Jordan DeGayner of Colorado College finished 32nd in the men's 50-yard free in a time of 21.08 just .34 seconds from qualifying for Wednesday night's consolation final.
In the team standings, the Trinity women are sitting in eighth-place with 30 points while Centre is 35th-place with one point.
The 2011 NCAA Championships continue through Saturday.
