SUWANEE, Ga. - Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference teams posted a 17-10-5 record during the opening week of the 2010 season. Highlighting the wins was DePauw's second straight 3-0 start to open up the season.

Austin College opened the year with a 1-1-1 record in its first week of action, getting a 2-1 win at the University of Dallas before falling 3-2 in overtime to UT-Dallas and finally battling to a 1-1 draw against the University of Puget Sound in the first home game of the season. Jason Campbell and Chris Melton each tallied a goal in the win over UD to kick off the season, and after falling behind 2-0 to UTD in the second half, the ‘Roos rallied with two late goals from Chris Stein and Sam Temple to force overtime, where they eventually fell to the Comets. Against Puget Sound, the ‘Roos again found themselves trailing late and once more it was Temple who came up with a dramatic late goal to force overtime. After scoring with less than three minutes left against UTD the night before, Temple scored at the 85:05 mark to send things into overtime against the Loggers and the ‘Roos would hold on for the draw thanks in large part to 10 saves in the game by Grant Gosselin. The ‘Roos head on the road this weekend to take on Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday and Concordia on Sunday.
Birmingham-Southern was at home this week to open their 2010 campaign, defeating Mississippi College on Wednesday before hosting the Jim 'n Nick's/Puma Labor Day Classic, taking on Washington University of St. Louis and Fontbonne University. The Panthers played to a scoreless draw with Washington and lost a tough 2-1 match to Fontbonne. Junior Garner Shivers led with two goals this week, while senior goalkeeper Shachar Hovan made 10 saves and allowed three goals for a 0.93 goals against average.
Millsaps opened the season 2-0-1 this week, including two overtime games played at the Rhodes Greg Volgas Memorial Classic. They first hosted Louisiana College at Harper Davis Field for a 3-0 shutout. Malte Schick had a hand in two of the goals with one on target and one assist to Michael Pellissier. Johan Schlotmann scored the third goal and assisted in Schick’s. Over the weekend the Majors drew to a 1-1 tie with Webster University after neither team could score after two overtime periods. Schick again scored the goal for the Majors for his second on the season. In Sunday’s finale it was Yuya Koyoshi who saved the Majors from another tie, scoring the game’s only goal in the second overtime period to defeat Principia 1-0. The Majors will return to Harper Davis Field this Sunday to host Berry College for a 1:00 p.m. match.
Oglethorpe got underway last week with the Petrels posting a 2-0-1 record in three contests. On Wednesday, the Petrels played Reinhardt to a 1-1 tie. Over the weekend, Oglethorpe picked up two wins in the annual Sonny Carter Invitational at Emory University. The Petrels knocked off Hampden-Sydney 2-1 on Saturday and then blasted Illinois Wesleyan by the score of 4-1 on Sunday. The men’s team is back in action vs. Piedmont on Sept 15.
