Austin College opened the year with a 1-1-1 record in its first week of action, getting a 2-1 win at the University of Dallas before falling 3-2 in overtime to UT-Dallas and finally battling to a 1-1 draw against the University of Puget Sound in the first home game of the season. Jason Campbell and Chris Melton each tallied a goal in the win over UD to kick off the season, and after falling behind 2-0 to UTD in the second half, the ‘Roos rallied with two late goals from Chris Stein and Sam Temple to force overtime, where they eventually fell to the Comets. Against Puget Sound, the ‘Roos again found themselves trailing late and once more it was Temple who came up with a dramatic late goal to force overtime. After scoring with less than three minutes left against UTD the night before, Temple scored at the 85:05 mark to send things into overtime against the Loggers and the ‘Roos would hold on for the draw thanks in large part to 10 saves in the game by Grant Gosselin.
