DePauw tabbed as preseason favorite to win 2010 SCAC Football Championship

SUWANEE, Ga. – For the first time since joining the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in 1998, defending league champion DePauw University was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the SCAC football championship.

DePauw garnered four of seven possible first-place votes and tallied 44 total points to headline the poll. DePauw finished the 2009 season with a 49-39 first-round loss to Thomas More while posting a 7-3 overall record and 5-1 mark in SCAC play.

Centre was just behind DePauw, as the Colonels earned 41 total points and recorded two first-place votes. Centre started out 6-0 last season before losing two of its final three games to finish 7-2 overall and 4-2 in league play.

Trinity checked into the preseason poll in third. The Tigers tallied 33 points in slightly edging Millsaps. Millsaps earned 32 total points and one first-place vote.

Austin College was picked as the fifth team with 20 points while Rhodes (15 points) and Sewanee (11 points) rounded out the poll.
