Hendrix Advances to SCAC Semifinals with Overtime Win against Sewanee

GREENCASTLE, Ind. —  Kelly Rappe's overtime goal lifted fifth-seeded Hendrix to a 4-3 victory over fourth-seed Sewanee and overcame a 3-1 deficit with 17 minutes left in the opening game of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. Box Score

Hendrix improved to 5-9 with the win and advanced to the semifinals for the first time in the tournament's history. The Warriors will face top-seeded Rhodes tomorrow at 11 a.m. Sewanee finished its season at 5-12.

Rappe gave Hendrix a 1-0 lead just 5:35 into the contest and the Warriors carried that lead into the intermission. Sewanee's Anne Booke scored on Carly Grimm's assist at 40:26 to tie the score before Caroline Carlin made it 2-1 just three minutes later. Booke added a second goal at 47:53 to push the Tigers' margin to 3-1.

Heather Newell then knotted the score with a pair goals at 53:41 and 60:11. Maggie DesPain assisted on the latter.

Hendrix held a 15-14 edge in shots and Sewanee led in corners, 12-11. Alyssa Havens totaled eight saves for the Warriors, while Sewanee's Anna Morrow added eight.

After the match SCAC Director of Communications Russell Kramer caught up with both head coaches and Hendrix sophomore Kelly Rappe' who scored the overtime game winning goal.
