Austin College split their two matches over the weekend, falling in a 1-0 defensive struggle against Birmingham-Southern before bouncing back in a big way with a 5-0 victory over Millsaps on Sunday. The loss to BSC was the first of the year for the ’Roos, who now find themselves at 6-1 overall this season. Against Millsaps, the ’Roos got a pair of goals in a 1:23 span less than 10 minutes into the game from Shelley Casey and Chelsea Parker and would not look back from there, getting the seventh goal of the year from Ali Ryan 10 minutes later to make it 3-0 heading into halftime. Casey would add a second goal and assist on an Emma Treu score in the second half to finish off the 5-0 victory. Kaitlin Elledge made five saves in the fifth shutout of the season for the ’Roos, who have surrendered just two goals through seven games. This weekend the ’Roos hit the road to take on Sewanee and Oglethorpe.

Birmingham-Southern
won both of its games this week on the road, defeating Austin College, 1-0, to open conference play, and beating University of Dallas, 3-0. The Panthers are now 5-2, and all five of their victories have been shutouts. BSC is out-scoring its opponents, 15-5, led by junior Alicia Plotky with three goals and four assists for 10 points. Senior Brittany Soto also has three goals. Freshman goalkeeper Richelle Byrd has played in all seven games and owns a 0.76 GAA, and freshman goalkeeper Jordan Papas made her first appearance against Dallas, playing the second half and making one save.

Centre
opened conference play on their home field with a pair of wins. Friday evening, Centre defeated Sewanee 1-0 in regulation play.  Sunday afternoon the Colonels defeated Oglethorpe 2-1. Centre continues conference play on Friday October 1st in Jackson, MS when they face the Millsaps Majors. Sunday afternoon, they will face the Panthers of Birmingham Southern College.

DePauw
is 4-3 on the season and 2-0 in SCAC play after a 3-0 win over Oglethorpe and a 2-1 victory against Sewanee. Against Oglethorpe Alexandra Ehr scored at 23:52 to give DePauw an early lead. Kelly Reeves added another goal before halftime, and Dana Sprague secured the 3-0 victory with her score at the 85:59 mark. The Tigers outshot Oglethorpe, 17-6, and put seven shots on goal during the contest. DePauw also held a 5-0 edge on corner kicks. Lauren Palfrey and Caroline Kerr made one save each in goal for the Tigers. In the win over Sewanee, Dana Sprague recorded both goals to lift DePauw to the win. Sprague’s first strike came on an assist from Ehr right before the end of the first period. She scored again in the 62nd minute. Sewanee scored at 77:19 mark, but DePauw would hang on for the victory. DePauw outshot Sewanee 14-9 and put seven shots on goal in the contest. DePauw also held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Lauren Palfrey recorded three saves in the victory.

Hendrix
stretched its losing streak to four games with a pair of shutout losses in its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend of the year.  The Warriors dropped a 5-0 match to No. 18 Trinity University on Friday evening and then suffered a 2-0 defeat against Southwestern University on Sunday afternoon.  Trinity peppered the Hendrix defense with 41 shots to earn a dominant victory.  Junior midfielder Abigail Loar led the Tigers with two goals.  The Warriors were outshot 41-1, including a 26-1 shots on-goal margin.  Hendrix junior goalkeeper Allison Mosley made some brilliant saves and ended the contest with a career-high 21 saves, 14 of which came in the second half.  Mosley was just two saves shy of matching the Hendrix record of 23 saves in a match, set by Danielle Stilz against Centre College on Sept. 25, 1998.  Southwestern had support off the bench as both scores came from substitutes.  Mosley made 11 saves in the match.  Senior midfielder Danielle Madison came off the bench in the 13th minute and found the back of the net six minutes later to put Southwestern on the scoreboard for a 1-0 lead.  Mosley denied four shots over the next 25:10 to keep the score at 1-0 after 45 minutes of action.  Pirates’ first year midfielder sent a high free kick into the box in the 55th minute and a high bounce over the keeper’s reach gave Southwestern a 2-0 advantage.

Millsaps
went 1-1 this weekend, defeating the University of Dallas 3-0 on Friday but falling 5-0 to Austin in their conference-opener on Sunday. Margaret Eggers, Jessica Harris, and Kayleigh Redhead provided the offense against the Crusaders while Sarah Nelin and Molly Beth Jordan recorded two saves each in the combined shutout. Unfortunately that offense didn’t carry over to Sunday’s match at Austin. The Majors were outshot 28-10 on the afternoon, dropping them to 6-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference. They will return home this weekend for the weekend double-header with Centre on Friday and DePauw on Sunday, game times are 6:00 p.m. and noon.

Oglethorpe
dropped a pair of conference matches this weekend to snap their six game winning streak. The Petrels fell at the hands of DePauw (3-0) on Friday and were bested by Centre (2-1) on Sunday in a thriller. Freshman Clara St. Urbain equalized the contest at one apiece late in the first half and the score remained that way until the Colonels got the game-winner with only 5 seconds left in regulation. The Petrels are now 6-2 on the season and will return home to face Dallas and Austin this weekend on Salamone Field.

Rhodes
split their SCAC opening weekend.  Rhodes hosted Southwestern University on Friday.  Rhodes won the game 2-0, off of two second half goals from junior forward, Ashley Ladd, and junior midfielder, Zoe Clark.  Assists came from Betsy Peterson and Paula Vasichko, respectively. Rhodes hosted #17 Trinity University on Sunday, their fourth top-25 opponent this season.  Trinity netted a goal in each half, while junior forward, Ashley Ladd, was able to pull one back late on a breakaway, making the final score 2-1.  Junior goalkeeper, Stephanie Sermonet made 4 saves during the game.

Sewanee
opened SCAC play this weekend, dropping two matches in three days. The Tigers faced host Centre College on Friday night and fell to the Colonels, 1-0. Centre’s Liz Miller put a shot past Sewanee goalkeeper Virginia Zakas at the 29:2 mark, and her goal was all the Colonels needed to put the Tigers away. Zakas finished the night with seven saves. Centre held a 13-8 advantage in shots, and a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Tigers traveled to DePauw on Sunday, where they dropped a 2-1 decision to the host Tigers. DePauw’s Dana Sprague scored twice for the black and gold Tigers. Sewanee countered with a goal from Fritsl Butler, a header off a corner by Bess Goodman, but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers fell 2-1. DePauw outshot Sewanee, 14-9 on the day, and led in corner kicks, 9-3. Zakas recorded five saves in 90 minutes of action for the Tigers. Sewanee is now 4-4 on the year and 0-2 in SCAC play. The Tigers will host Austin College on Friday night in another SCAC matchup.

Southwestern
headed out of town for their first SCAC Conference matches, ending the road trip 1-1 and 4-2-1 overall. A physical match on Friday at Rhodes left the Pirates battered as they fell 2-0, but they rebounded well with a 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon at Hendrix. Southwestern remains in conference action this weekend as they face conference-rival Trinity at home at 2:00 pm.

#17 Trinity
opened up SCAC play with a pair of road wins over the weekend, defeating both Hendrix and Rhodes. The Tigers started off with a 5-0 shutout win over Hendrix, then took a 2-1 win over Rhodes in the weekend finale.  The goal by Rhodes came in the final minute of play, and kept Trinity from its third consecutive game without allowing a goal. Trinity travels to Georgetown, Texas, on Saturday, facing off against Southwestern University for more SCAC action.  Last season, Trinity scored a 4-0 win at home against the Pirates, but the Tigers lost a 2-1 contest the last time the teams met in Georgetown.  Under Head Coach Lance Key, who is in his seventh season, Trinity is 4-2 against Southwestern.
